A lovely winning week last week, going 3-1. Now, yes, my faith in Mervyn King hasn’t paid off, yet again, but at least the faith put into Simon Whitlock paid off. And I had tipped Barney in thei first encounter, yet something was pointing to a Whitlock win and it paid off in spectacular fashion. A lovely price means a lovely winner. Hopefully with the profit we all made last week, we can get ourselves a flight somewhere sunny. Terry Jenkins Vs Ronnie Baxter:
Last week in Sheffield saw the old Terry Jenkins come out to play against Adrian Lewis. He picked up his second win of the tournament by beating Lewis, who is now the only man Terry Jenkins has beaten in the Premier League this year. He averaged 93.33 and took out 116 on his way to an 8-5 win.
Ronnie Baxter is the form horse at the moment. Well, if you take out Phil Taylor. He just seems to be grinding out points left, right and centre and it’s great. He’s a real crowd pleaser and he’s looking good for a place in the semi-finals. Baxter averaged 95.36 in his draw with Mervyn King and his highest checkout was 122, which is about standard for Baxter.
Looking at the bare bones of last week, Jenkins’ win over Lewis seems better. However, if you delve deeper into the matches, Baxter showed a lot of bottle to get that point against King and had his chance to win it, with a shot at double 18. If that dart had gone it, Baxter’s price against Terry Jenkins would probably be odds-on, but as it is, he’s odds-against. Add to the fact Baxter has been super-consistent in the Premier League and it makes sense to back him at the price on offer.

James Wade vs Raymond van Barneveld:
Well, where to begin? At one point we would have been talking about a Wade vs Barneveld match as one of the mouth-watering matches of the tournament. Then we could have been talking about a match between the two men at the bottom of the Premier League. Now all it is is a very in-form James Wade taking on a shockingly bad Raymond van Barneveld.
“So, what is the problem with Barney?” I hear you ask. It’s a fair question, considering he averaged 99.85 in his 8-6 defeat to Simon Whitlock. In short, his finishing and his mentality. You can question his desire and passion for the game right now. He’s made his money out of it and it seems like he can’t be bothered with it.
The same could have been said about James Wade, but he come on to a bit of a game recently and took a point from Phil Taylor, averaging 100.51 in the process. Wade was leading 7-4 and was unlucky not to beat Taylor. However, Wade’s finishing, which is usually his strong point, is still not firing on all cylinders this season. Wade was a man you could count on hitting a couple of 100+ checkouts during his matches, now you’re even sweating on him hitting double 10 at times.
That being said, Wade is in the type of form that he should brush aside Barney. But the prices on the Wade win aren’t too pleasing, considering his patchy form this year. 8/11? No, thanks. However, looking at the stats of the season, Barney’s checkouts are still shocking, with only one checkout over 100 in all his matches. It’s not good enough. Now, as I said, Wade is capable of some decent checkouts on his day and we’ll be counting on that for our bet in this match.

Adrian Lewis Vs Mervyn King:
This has the potential to either be a shocking standard of darts, or a great, high scoring match. I can’t see it falling anywhere in between. Mervyn King got his Premier League season off to a flyer and was playing some great darts in the first few weeks of the season. However, he seems to be playing his C-game at the moment and it’s costing him dearly. He wa 6-4 up over Ronnie Baxter last week and will feel like he should have won it and was, really, lucky to get a point. Mervy King averaged 94.15 against Baxter and took out 102. Not a bad performance, just not great, which is what we’ve seen of King this year. He seems to be going backwards in his performances compared to early on in the season.
Adrian Lewis, what haven’t I said about him before? Mercurial at times, shocking at others. But what’s letting him down right now is his finishing. Again, he’s a player every knows can take out 130+ finishes when he’s in the groove, yet he’s been strugling over the past few weeks. He averaged 91.88 in his 8-5 defeat to Terry Jenkins last week, taking out 112. Losing to Terry Jenkins twice in the Premier League isn’t an impressive stat. He has 9 points in the Premier League, 2 points behind Mervyn King and he still harbours aspirations to qualify for the semi-finals.
Looking at the last few weeks, it seems like King is still grinding out decent enough results while playing some shocking darts. I wouldn’t have been surprised to have seen him get whitewahed by James Wade, but King is the type of player that will grind it out and nick some legs when his opponent messes up. And I think this is how he’ll beat Adrian Lewis. King should be able to nick in when Lewis messes up his finishing. There’s no doubting the fact Lewis can score heavier than King when he’s on form, but King is a far better finisher. And, as they say, scoring for show, doubles for dough.

Phil Taylor vs Simon Whitlock:
Another rematch of the 2010 PDC World Championship Final. Phil Taylor holds the advantage over Simon Whitlock, but both men have been playing well recently. Whitlock picked up another PDC Tour title on Saturday, but Taylor picked up Sunday’s tournament. So, it looks like a match between the two of the form players at the moment. Taylor hasn’t been performing to his exceptionally high levels in the Premier League recently, he’s been starting slow and then picking up the points later on in the match. His average of 98.92 against James Wade was actually lower thna his opponent, but he still managed a great point. At the end of the day, it was good enough, as he overcame the pressure and started firing in the high scores to end the chances of a Wade win.
Whitlock picked up a win over Raymond van Barneveld, averaging 99.52 and taking out some impressive checkouts, including a 154 and a 121. Whitlock seems to have finally settled down in the UK and in the PDC and is proving his World Championship success isn’t just a flash in the pan. Whitlock is a high scorer when on fire, but it is his finishing that will get him on the board against Taylor.
I think Taylor should win this, but at the prices, I can’t back him, because Whitlock is just as capable as James Wade to push Taylor all the way. However, both men are great finishers and the line and price is nice to bet on the overs.
