Well, another good day for us at the BDO World Championships. We’re not 7-5 with a lovely profit of +8.17 after only five days of action. We’re down to the final eight, with one world champion in the hunt and seven potential heirs to the throne.
Two matches tonight…well, four if you count the women’s semi-finals, but since there’s no betting, we won’t count them. We’re close to the end of the world championship action for another 11-and-a-half months, but we’ve still got plenty of bets to get through. Remember, it’s important to go shopping round the bookies for the best line, as was evident in the Scott Waites match. Martin Adams vs Ross Smith.
Martin Adams, the reigning BDO World Champion will be up against the surprise package of the tournament, Ross Smith. Smith has taken out two big names on his way to this match, Tony O’Shea and then Willie van de Wiel. He’ll be hoping to claim the scalp of Adams, who didn’t look all the comfortable in his narrow win over John Walton in the previous round.
While, I think Adams is rightly the favourite here, Smith might cause him a problem or two. That being said, Adams’ average was quite a bit better than Smith’s, so he shouldn’t be trouble to much if his last match didn’t take it out of him.
I think Adams’ experience will take him through here, as Smith will never have played on such a huge stage, over such a long distance. If he’s not careful, it could be a Wolfie masterclass. As it stands, I can’t really find a value bet, as Adams being 1/6 prohibts any real match betting and the handicap at -2.5 still has Adams a favourite and it could well be 5-0 is the ocassion overwhelms Smith.

Gary Robson vs Martin Phillips.
Gary Robson produced one of the performances of the last 16 by taking out Dave Chisnall and we were on the right side of him. Martin Phillips, on the other hand, can think himself lucky to have got past Joey ten Berge. Phillips never hit the heights we know he’s capable of, while Robson surpassed our expectations.
Robson’s average was far superior to Phillips and if he reproduces that and the same Martin Phillips turns up, Robson will be into the semi-finals. The bookies have him a slight favourite and I think that’s about right. We’ll be looking to get on the good side of him again, as Phillips just didn’t seem right, while Robson was definitely there.
The other interestnig line is the 180s line. Between them, the two combined for 3 180s in the previous round, Phillips’ one coming in a 7 set match, while Robson’s two came in 5 sets. The line is a crazy 10.5 and I think it’s going to be quite a bit less.
