Well, what can I say about last week? It was truly shocking and three players who didn’t show up in the first week played some better darts and the only player to carry their form over from the first week was Gary Anderson.

We went 0-3 last week, taking us to 2-4 and -4.8 units. A long, long way to go in the Premier League, though. Lots more matches, so remember that it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon!

Gary Anderson vs Mark Webster.

Gary Anderson is the only man with a 100% record in the Premier League and we’ve only been playing for two weeks. He averaged 102.21 in his victory over Terry Jenkins last week and he’s been playing some solid darts without hitting the heights he had shown at the World Championships. Anderson will be a tough man to be and Mark Webster might have needed a confidence boosting victory over Phil Taylor last week if he was to stand a real chance. As it happened, Webster played well, averaging 97.27 but he wilted at key times, even though his finishing was superb at times.

Both men had less than stellar weekends in the floor tournaments, with the best performance from either man being Webster’s run to the four round on Saturday. Anderson lost to Brendan dolan in the first round on Sunday, while Webster lost in the same round to Magnus Caris.

I can’t see past an Anderson win here, simply because of his first two performances of the league. However, as is usually the case with Gary Anderson, he’s not any value. However, the market we’re going to be looking at is the highest checkout market. Mark Webster took out a 170 last week and he’ll need to reproduce that kind of finishing to keep up with Anderson, who is improving on his doubling. it will be a high quality encounter and the line at 888.com is just tempting enough for a dabble.

James Wade vs Simon Whitlock.

Simon Whitlock is 0-2 in the league and it’s a tad surprising. He had a shocker last week against Raymond van Barneveld and averaged 91.30, with his usually steady doubling failing him. James Wade got back to some kind of form, dismantling Adrian Lewis with an average of 97.69.

There still seems to be something wrong with Whitlock’s game, while Wade is the one who usually starts slow in tournaments. Wade reached the fourth round in both weekend floor tournaments, while Whitlock managed to win one game over the weekend.

Wade is naturally the bet here, after showing some decent form last week, while Whitlock’s game shows no sign of improving, especially after the weekend’s floor tournaments. Wade being odds-against is definitely a great sign for us.

Adrian Lewis vs Raymond van Barneveld.

These two men had perhaps the most baffling results of last week. Adrian Lewis lost to James Wade, when quite fancied to follow up his first week win over Phil Taylor. However, he throw some horrendous darts at times, yet still managed to average just over 99, which is amazing when you see some of his shocking scores.

Raymond van Barneveld wasn’t expected to even get near a 100 average last week, yet averaged 100.15 in his 8-3 demolition of Simon Whitlock. A completely unexpected performance and one that showed that Barney still has some game left in him.

Based on last week’s form (Barney didn’t play the floor tournaments at the weekend, while Lewis made Saturday’s final, before pulling out of Sunday’s tournament ill), this is going to be close. If Lewis is feeling better after his weekend’s exploits, he is the right favourite, but this really could be close and we’re relying more on Barney pulling out another great performance. I can’t separate them and it’s the first time I’m going to advocate having a dabble on the draw.

Phil Taylor vs Terry Jenkins.

Terry Jenkins baffles me. Watching the performances he puts in during the Premier League season, it’s a wonder he still qualifies each year, but he does and fair play to him. Hell, he’s even been a losing finalist, so he’s doing something right. That being said, he’s never seemed to progress and his level seems to be slipping back to the top 16 and he just doesn’t look in the class of some of these players at times. I can’t see The Bull troubling Phil Taylor here and his average of 91.41 last week compared to Taylor’s 103.87 shows the gulf in class.

As long as Taylor from week one in London doesn’t turn up, it will be two Premier League wins out of three for The Power. Naturally, Taylor’s price is prohibitive at 2/5, so we’ll avoid that. The handicaps offer no real vaule and the same applies to the 180s markets and the highest checkout market.

We’ll leave that match alone and call it a night.
