Well, a poor day, if I’m being honest. That’s the danger of short format darts. We came close to the highest checkout early in the Dave Chisnall match, Mervyn King battered in a 170 at the wrong time for us, but Co Stompe was a convincing winner.
So, we went 1-4 last night, taking us to 4-7 and a loss of -3 units, so I’ll never hide behind the figures, it was a lousy night. Let’s get back on track with some big darting action. An early start, so be ready for a 1:00pm
The markets at Betfair’s are always great during the big darts tournaments. Betfair is traditionally the best value around and the ability to trade your position during a match is great. And add in the free bet promotions, you’re onto a winner.
Wes Newton versus Peter Wright.
What a match to start Day Three of the Players Championship! You might not think so, but I honestly believe Peter Wright is playing some great darts when he’s on TV. He’s pushed the big names and I think he’s going to do the same again, if not go one better.
Newton played well in the first round and came through comfortably, but so did Wright, who racked up some big scores, too. Wright is far too big for the way he’s playing. Newton isn’t known for racking up so many 180s, so Wright looks a good shout here, as well, considering the amount he racked up in his first round match – he did us a favour there!

Mark Walsh versus Wayne Jones:
This won’t be the flashiest match of the day, but Wayne Jones and Mark Walsh are grinders. Walsh is coming off the back of some impressive performances and Wayne Jones is in good spirits with a 6-0 win over John Part. Will this be close? Sure. Who do I think will win? Wayne Jones. Why? Walsh is playing well, sure, but I think Jones is just one of the most consistent players in the second tier of the PDC. He’s just solid, whereas Walsh is riding a wave at the moment, and if that ends, we want to be against him. The bookies have it about right, but I just like Jones at odds-against.

Steve Brown versus James Wade:
Brown pulled off the upset of the round beating Paul Nicholson, but can he carry it on here? Possibly, but I think Wade will grind out a win here. The prices are about right and if Wade can hit the doubles like he did against Andy Smith, it will be over for Brown sooner rather than later. Good luck to him, thuogh, as he’s a nice guy!

Raymond van Barneveld versus Scott Rand:
Barney is back? I have no idea. The amount of times I’ve asked myself that, and he’s not delivered is almost in the hundreds, I reckon. That being said, back to the old darts, one of the performances of the round (his best of the year) and Scott Rand doesn’t stand a chance. 1/6 for Barney is short, but I think he’ll take this comfortably.

Dave Chisnall versus Co Stompe:
Two Darts Betting Tips favourites take on each other in the second round of the Players Championship and I think it’s going to be a cracker. Both men had good wins in the first round, both men were scoring well and both men were hitting the doubles well.
So, where does the money go? Well, I’d personally have it 10/11 the pair, so we have to take the outsider here, which is obviously Co Stompe. The bookies are always in love with Chisnall and with his scoring, I can understand that, but his doubling lets players on his level and better in, and if they take their chances like so many do, he’ll be out on his arse.
So, a great match to come, but we have to take the value here.

Justin Pipe versus Mark Webster:
The No.1 seed Justin Pipe (Seriously, I love typing that) won comfortably against a very out of sorts John Henderson, and he’ll now face a real test against Mark Webster, who came through a tough match against Steve Beaton.
I honestly believe in following Pipe here, as he’s playing well, he’s due to come good on the floor and the bookies are always pricing him far bigger than I would have him. This time they’re being a bit smarter, but I still believe in sticking with him, as Webster wasn’t that impressive against Beaton and Pipe can grind players down – he’s not number one seed for nothing!

Phil Taylor versus Mervyn King:
Taylor to win here in style? Yes. There’s the old grudge here and although King looked in good nick against Colin Lloyd, Taylor coming back from the brink of defeat sums up just how well he’s actually playing. Good luck to King, but Taylor’s form over the past few months has been nothing short of breath-taking.
Recommend: No bet.
Gary Anderson versus Kevin Painter:
Anderson with the performance of the first round, a huge average taking on one of the most out-of-form players in the tournament. Result? Anderson wins comfortably. There’s no value around, so save your winnings for tomorrow’s action.

And that’s all the action for today’s darts. It’s a same they’ve decided to end Day Three of the Players Championship with a couple of one-sided matches, but there’s some fantastic action to come and we could see one or two players we didn’t expect to have a good run go deep in Doncaster.
