A fun night of darts last night, with Dean Winstanley capping off the evening with a solid performance seeing of Joey ten Berg. Alan Norris scraped through against Benito van de Pas, and Geert de Vos did us a big favour with the upset of the night, taking out Tony West.

We’ve managed to get the upsets on our side, but we’re looking at a loss of -5.4 units at the end of the first round of the BDO 2012 World Championship. so, let’s get back on track and start the second round right now!

Paul Jennings versus Steve Douglas.

Both men had impressive wins in the first round, Douglas knocking out 5th seed Gary Robson 3-0 and Jennings dispatching Garry Thompson 3-1. Both men averaged roughly the same, at just under 84, so not exactly setting the world alight.

I really liked Douglas before his first round match, and I like him here again, as his form is extremely solid, and he did a real number on one of the biggest names in the BDO. He’s a nice price, so we’re going in.

Steve Douglas to beat Paul Jennings: 7/5 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 2 units.

Robbie Green versus Wesley Harms.

Wesley Harms pulled off another one of this year’s upsets, knocking out Martin Phillips in the first round, while Robbie Green easily took care of Darryl Fitton. Both men won their matches 3-1, but there’s a bit of a disparity in their averages. Green averaged just over 87, while Harms managed just over 82. There’s no denying Green is a heavy scorer, and he’s one of top players in the BDO. I don’t think Harms has enough of a game to trouble Kong, and I think the handicap is where we should look for a bit of value. In a race to 4, I can’t see Harms taking more than 2 sets, so Green look tremendous value.

Robbie Green -1.5 sets to beat Wesley Harms: 5/6 Paddy Power.

Recommend: 3 units.

Martin Adams versus Gary Stone.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere’s Wolfie. Again. Adams got the defence of his title off to a flyer with a 3-0 win over the dangerous Scott Mitchell, while Stone destryoed No.16 seed Ron Meulenkamp 3-0 with an average of 88.68. Adams averaged just over 90, so not much of a disparity in performances at all.

Adams is 1/5 to take this, and I can’t see any value in this. Stone looked decent enough in the first round to suggest he’ll put up a fight against England Captain Martin Adams. While he might not take the match, the +2.5 on the handicap is pretty tempting, as I can see him pushing England Captain Martin Adams all the way.

Gary Stone +2.5 sets to beat Martin Adams: 11/10 @ Paddy Power.

Recommend: 1 unit.

Tony O’Shea versus Ross Montgomery.

This should be the game of the night. Both men won their first round matches comfortably, with a score of 3-1. Both men averaged around the 88-89 mark and both men have a wealth of experience behind them. For me, it’s too close to call, but there’s one thing for certain, we’re going to have a close one. So, because of that, I think we’re going to see a couple of decent checkouts. With the line at 126.5, I think we have to have a go at it, because both men love a high checkout, and O’Shea hit a 140 and a 142 finish in the first round, while Montgomery wasn’t far off with a 116. So, we should hopefully get a lot of legs and a lot of big finishes.

Highest checkout in Tony O’Shea versus Ross Montgomery match over 126.5: 5/6 @ Paddy Power.

Recommend: 1.5 units.
