So, Friday night had almost everything you could want in a night of darts, with excitement, drama and great darts, and Saturday might not have lived up to that, but it was still a great night. We saw the gulf in class between Phil Taylor and James Wade at this moment in time, and we also saw the potential Dave Chisnall has shown finally come to fruition. Wade has never really been races at the tournament, and succumbed easily to Taylor, and while Justin Pipe put up a fight, his finishing, which was impressive in the tournament until then, finally let him down, and Chisnall steamrolled him.
Tonight is the culmination in a tournament that has taken some time to get going, but from the quarter-finals onwards, we got fireworks. It’s a bit of a surprise final tonight, but I think the two most deserving players are here. No-one really troubled Taylor in his half of the draw, and Chisnall got into the groove more and more as the tournament went on, and his 10 180s against Justin Pipe summed up how his confidence has been growing. He’s got the toughest challenge in darts in front of him right now, but I think it’s going to be an exciting final.
