PDC UK Open 2013 Day One Premium Picks.
We’re back to tournament action with the UK Open finally coming round. It’s the summer, so it’s PDC tournaments all the way. Hopefully you’re as glad to see the back of the Premier League as much as I am. The one thing I should point out is that due to the quick turnaround of matches, I’ll only be picking from the matches that are priced up before the day’s action starts. It takes the bookies too long to put prices up for the games as and when they’re drawn. Once the field gets smaller, we can get more in depth, too.
So a fresh start and a new tournament, with an unbelievably strong field. We have the big guns, Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor heading the field, with last year’s champion Robert Thornton heading the chasing pack. Outside of the Premier League boys, we see the usual field of PDC players, as well as some BDO names, most notably Robbie “Kong” Green and Stephen Bunting. The later is my outside pick for the tournament at 50/1, simply because he’s a class act and if the draw goes his way, he’ll flourish. Where else to go for value? Well, as much as it pains me to say it, Jelle Klassen at 125/1 is playing good darts again, and as a former World Champion, he could go well. And Mervyn King at 50/1, if given a good draw, could go deep, as he’s playing well again. Naturally, the market leader is Michael van Gerwen ar aroudn 15/8, and if you fancy him at a short price, more power to you.
I won’t be going through every match, as I’d get bored halfway through, which would mean you would get bored around a quarter of the way through! As the tournament goes on, I’ll put my thoughts down, but with so many matches just now, it’s not worth it.
