While the Petersen result I can accept, Gary Anderson did show that he was great value against Michael van Gerwen, and Ian White did the same against Simon Whitlock. You’ll definitely not see prices like that for Gary Anderson any time soon, as the Scotsman is definitely coming back to some kind of form, and Ian White is not beginning to show on TV what he’s capable of. Mervyn King is also a sore point, as Lewis was there for the taking, and if King had been able to raise his game and deal with the pressure, he would be in the quarter-finals right now. As for Peter Wright, he did it the hard way again. So, all-in-all, the bets I feel were value picks, especially Anderson and White, but we just failed to get over the line for the score. Premium Picks are now 21-29 with a profit of -7.46 units.
Still, we have to keep on moving, and it’s a single session tonight, with the last two quarter-final matches. Michael van Gerwen will be happy with his draw, as he faces Mark Webster. The second match is one between two old foes – James Wade and Adrian Lewis. Both men will have wanted easier draws, for sure, but they’ll both be somewhat confident after the form their opponent has shown so far.
Michael van Gerwen Vs Mark Webster
This has been a dream run for Mark Webster. I don’t think many people had him down as a quarter-finalist, but here he is and he’s shown so much fight and determination that he’s starting to look like a genuine outside chance for the title. It’s just unfortunate for him that Michael van Gerwen has finally hit the form at exactly the right time. He’s like a horse timing his late run to perfection. Van Gerwen’s 100.20 against Gary Anderson showed how dangerous he can be, and Webster is going to have to up his game yet again to cope with Van Gerwen. Can he do it? Well, I’ve rallied against him throughout the tournament, and now there’s something that has me thinking Webster’s fight is causing his opponents some problems. I still can’t see him beating Van Gerwen, but I can definitely see him taking a couple of sets off him, and a couple of sets it all he needs to get over the line on the handicap. The other line I want to look at is the highest handicap – Webster has a highest checkout of 157, and Van Gerwen has a 137 to his name. The line is 136.5 and we should get a few sets to get it done.

Adrian Lewis Vs James Wade.
A huge match for both men, as Lewis has £200,000 to defend on the rankings, and James Wade would just love a big win to prove he’s not becoming an afterthought in the big tournaments. If you look solely at their last matches, Wade is the man, like Van Gerwen, timing his run just right. Lewis looked shocking at times against a sub-par Mervyn King. But looking at the tournament as a whole, it’s been Lewis who has impressed. That being said, Wade is on the up-and-up, and he also holds a huge head-to-head advantage over Lewis – 22-12 in favour of The Machine. Wade is going to fight hard for the win here, and I think he’s a bit big given the form showed by Lewis against the first “quality” player he’s faced in the tournament. Wade has come through tough matches, and he looks good value to come through again. Anything bigger than 7/4 looks great to me.
