February 9th, 2021 NBA Betting Tips

A 5-4 record last week.

A huge game last night from LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets. He had 24 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds including an NBA rookie record seven threes. The Hornets have really turned things around with Ball and Gordon Hayward, and now find themselves in position for a playoff spot. A long way to go, but nice to see after years of being one of the more pathetic franchises in the NBA.

I’ve got three tips for tonight’s games. Let’s get to them and start the week off strong.

Houston Rockets at New Orleans Pelicans Betting Tips:

The Rockets have really impressed since the James Harden trade, but the latest injury to Christian Wood is probably going to be too much for this team. In addition, they are going to be without John Wall and Eric Gordon tonight so offense will be hard to come by. That’s three of their top four scorers, gone. This is also the second half of a back-to-back for Houston.

New Orleans is in a good spot to move up a spot and grab a win, but I just don’t trust this team enough right now to lay -6. They are only 3-7 as a favorite against the spread this year. I do think that Zion and Steven Adams can really dominate here without Wood in action.

I will be taking the under on this one though. Points are going to be hard to come by for the Rockets and both of these teams have been putting up more unders than overs of late.

Boston Celtics at Utah Jazz Betting Tips:

The Jazz are just killing teams right now. They have won four straight and fifteen out of the past sixteen games. They had a gutsy win on Sunday against the Pacers and now return home to face the Boston Celtics.

Boston has been good, but disappointing this year. 12-10 is not what anyone would’ve expected from this team thus far. They are a lot better than that record, but the record is what ultimately matters the most in this league. I think the biggest red flag here is that the Celtics only have three wins on the season against teams currently over .500.

I am liking the Jazz to continue their winning ways here. The Celtics are still dealing with injuries, Marcus Smart is out and Jaylen Brown is questionable tonight, and the Jazz are just awesome right now; they are the only team in the NBA in the top-5 of both offense and defense. This line is decent enough to bet them keeping it going.

Philadelphia 76ers at Sacramento Kings Betting Tips:

De’Aaron Fox just one of the Player of the Week and the Kings are playing well right now. They are now 12-11 on the season and have won seven out of their past eight games. The defense is improved, but it’s still not what I would call “good” or “scary”.

They get a tough match-up tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers who have won 10 out of their past 13 games. They are coming into this game well rested and this will be the first game of a road trip. The team should look to get started strong on what will be a four-game road trip.

The Kings have impressed me, but I think they are in trouble tonight. The 76ers are fourth in the NBA in Defensive Rating and are coming into this one healthy. There is no reason this team shouldn’t show up and get this road trip started on the right foot tonight.
