This week on the Champions Tour, it is the Principal Charity Classic.
This 54 hole tournament takes place at the Wakonda Club course in Des Moines, Iowa. It has been held at various courses in Iowa over the years, but it has been at the Wakonda Club for 2013, 2014 and now 2015.
It was previously known as the Allianz Championship, but has been known as the Principal Charity Classic since 2007. It’s also had all Americans win it except for 2009 and 2010, where Zimbabweans won it both years. That’s a lot of money in Zimbabwe dollars!
Jay Haas has had the best history at the tournament – with 3 wins. He won in 2007, 2008 and 2012 and is participating this week, going for a 4th win which would be something.
Bernhard Langer will go into this tournament as the favourite, despite a very poor and erratic showing at the Senior PGA Championship last week. Let’s have a quick look at the betting odds:

The Principal Charity Classic Betting Tip #1: Jay Haas
In the last two tournaments here at this course, Haas has had respectable positions. He came tied for 3rd last year just 1 off top, and the year before while he was 4 off 1st, he still came tied for 7th.
Now – it’s fair to say Jay Haas is not playing well at the moment. He had a solid 6th place in February in the Allianz Championship but you have to go back to the 2014 season when he last came top 5 in tournaments.
Haas ended 2014 with a bang and was on the top of his form. He’s been really struggling this year which is a concern – but he’s still on our radar. This is one of those times where we’ve been keeping an eye on Haas and we’re going to bet him despite his poor form. However if he fails us here – it’ll take awhile before we’ll even consider betting him again.
