This week on the European Tour, we have the Lyoness Open – most popularly known as the Austrian Open.
The tournament preceding the US Open is always an interesting one with quite a lot of dark horses that can potentially win it. This will be the third time that this event is ahead of the US Open. There’s not a huge prize purse – but that’s okay. With a poor field, there are plenty of surprises and somewhere where we can hopefully find some value.

Wiesberger is the heavy favourite and the biggest name on the course. Joost Luiten is skipping it which is a shame as he is perfectly suited for this course. Let’s get to the betting tips:
Austrian Open Betting Tip #1: Daniel Im
Ever heard of Daniel Im? Don’t worry if you haven’t – he usually plays on the Challenge Tour.
Currently ranked #365 in the World, Daniel Im is coming into this on the back of some fine form. He has struggled a lot this year but we noticed him starting to step up his game – and he managed to bang out a win in the Swiss Challenge last time out.
Daniel Im is no stranger to this course either. He has played on it the last two years. He missed the cut 2 years ago, but last year at the Austrian Open he managed to come in 7th.
He’s a long shot bet and we’ll only be doing a quarter unit on him. But he may just surprise us.
Austran Open Betting Tip #2: Lee Slattery
Slattery might just be sneaking into some form.
After a few missed cuts, he managed to get a Top 50 place followed by a Top 10 place last time out.
He’s played this tournament quite a few times – and the last two years he has connected very well. His GIR has improved on this course, and he’s played very solid. He’s had a 9th place and a 4th place in the last two years. He’s a bit of a risk – but then with golf when isn’t it risky? Wiesberger is favourite based mainly on his course form – we like the course form of Slattery here as well.
That’s all we have for this week on the European Tour. Should be a very interesting course and it’s going to be one with a surprise winner we expect. We’d be very surprised if any of the Top 5 favourites win.
