This week on the PGA Tour, we have the Greenbrier Classic.
We’ll be going into it spending some winnings, due to our great LPGA cash last week. Here’s the betting slip:
This is always an interesting tournament. From a betting perspective it’s generally a bloody crapshoot – but that’s not always a bad thing. For the most part form goes out the window, and we see some crazy winners.
I mean just look at the history of the tournament and the odds:
2010 Winner: Stuart Appleby 80/1
2011 Winner: Scott Stallings 175/1
2012 Winner: Ted Potter Jr. 500/1
2013 Winner: Jonas Blixt 125/1
2014 Winner: Angel Cabrera 100/1
Obviously it’s hard to handicap – but man, can you imagine backing Ted Potter Jr in 2012?
This is the type of tournament where we are conflicted in regards to the betting tips and whether we should even offer them. However we’re going to do 4 betting tips – but we recommend quarter unit bets on all of them as the randomness of this is like the lottery.

Greenbrier Classic Betting Tip #1: Webb Simpson
The only “sensible” bet we’ll be making for this tournament which is the 3rd favourite, Web Simpson. Simpson has had some solid results here in the 5 tournaments he has played in it. He’s had 3 top 10 finished and was 3rd last year.
He’s not played a lot over the last little while but he did have a 2nd place a few months ago. And in this bizarro world tournament – sure, why the hell not.
Greenbrier Classic Betting Tip #2: Scott Pinckney
For this 125/1 pick, we were looking for someone who had a good result recently, and then has been okay in the past couple of tournaments. Scott Pinckney fits the bill. He had a solid 2nd place finish at the Byron Nelson in late May, and also came -7 at the Travelers Championship. A solid result there, and the American may just suprise us. He’s never played this tournament before.
Greenbrier Classic Betting Tip #3: Jon Curran
One golfer who has had some solid form coming into this is Jon Curran. Curran has also never played on this course but our simulatins have him doing quite well. The #81 ranked golfer from Massachusetts also had a solid finish in the Byron Nelson, when he came tied for 6th place. We’ll be backing him to continue his form – he’s shown up quite a lot for example at the Puerto Rico Open when he came 2nd.
Greenbrier Classic Betting Tip #4: Steven Bowditch
And we’ve got 3 quarter unit bets down – time to make it an even unit. We’ll take Steven Bowditch who has came 2nd here before, and has been up and down in terms of form. 66/1. Why the hell not.
Also screw it – a quarter unit on Tiger Woods. Why the hell not.
