This week, the European Tour heads to the Netherlands for the prestigious KLM Open.
The KLM Open has been part of the European Tour since 1972 when the European Tour started up but has been around since the 1927s. It’s primarily known as the Dutch Open or the KLM Dutch Open, as well as the KLM Open.
it’s had quite the share of winners over the years with Seve Ballesteros winning multiple times.
Last years winner was Paul Casey, and the year prior was the dutch man Joost Luiten who defeated Miguel Angel Jimenez in a playoff.
Interestingly, the odds for the past few winners are:
Paul Casey: 25/1
Joost Luiten: 20/1
Peter Hanson: 22/1
Simon Dyson: 25/1
So it might be worth looking for the 3rd-6th favourites for this one.
Let’s check those odds and then get to the tips:
KLM Open 2015 Betting Odds:
- Martin Kaymer: 9/1
- Joost Luiten: 18/1
- Jamie Donaldson: 25/1
- Tyrell Hatton: 28/1
- Eddie Pepperell: 28/1
- Matthew Fitzpatrick: 30/1
- Richie Ramsay: 30/1
- Soren Kjeldsen: 30/1
- Andy Sullivan: 30/1
- Tommy Fleetwood: 35/1
Also priced at 35/1 are Gregory Boudy and Kristoffer Broberg. So if we go with the “20s” rule we only have Donaldson, Hatton and Pepperell to choose from.
Let’s get to the tips:
KLM Open Betting Tip #1: Richie Ramsay
Richie Ramsay has had some solid finishes at the KLM – a 2nd place in 2012 and a 9th place in 2014. He also had a 22nd place in 2013 and another top 20 finish in 2011. It’s a good sign that he peaks at this time of year although it’s also dependent on the field.
The Scotsman hasn’t played in awhile at the European Tour, but he already has a European Tour win this season at the Trophee Hassan II back in March. Also on the European Tour in his last two tournaments, he came tied for 5th in the Match Play and tied for 10th in the Omega European Masters.
With no golf since August 16th, Ramsay will be itching to play. The price of 30/1 is appealing and one we have to go with.
KLM Open Betting Tip #2: David Horsey
Winner of this event 3 years ago and 3rd place last year, Horsey is a surprisingly high 50/1.
It’s surprising considering his recent results as well as course form. He just came 3rd at the Russian Open and will be coming in hot. It was just a couple of weeks ago he won the Danish Open as well.
He’s on form and his only issue is he often has a bad round that goes over. But if he can keep the form going – 50/1 is a steal despite his lack of consistency at times.
KLM Open Betting Tip #3: Joost Luiten
Luiten is someone who is always a contender, and in his home country we have to bet on him to take it down. His odds are surprisingly high as well at 18/1 which makes it a good price both to win and E/W, or win and Top 5.
Luiten has excellent course form and although he’s been away from the European Tour for awhile – this is where he seems to play his best golf, and we’re hoping his disastrous run at the US PGA Championship is behind him.
