The golf sort of returns this week with the PGA Tour returning. This week we have the SBS Tournament of Champions.
This is always a very tricky one to tip. You’ve got some of the worlds best golfers going up against each other and we don’t know how they are performing after the break. Historical data is minimal and doesn’t really help.
In saying that we’ve did well here in the past. Last year for example we correctly tipped Snedeker at a Top 4 finish for 11/1, and Reed for the same at 9/4.
The year prior we correctly tipped Hideki Matsuyama to be the Top Asian at 4/6 odds.
It’s funny because initially I wasn’t going to tip anything for the Tournament of Champions after a brief look through. Then I saw my historical stats and realized I’ve had some bloody good luck with it!
So I just wanted to state that beforehand – that initially I didn’t like anything this week but based on my past history I decided to give it a shot anyway.
I’m so tempted by Snedeker but unfortunately we aren’t getting 11/1 on him to finish in the Top 4 this year. The bookies have wisened up and his odds are just 7/2 for a Top 4 finish. You know what the guy seems to love this course, and at 20/1 I’m going to do an E/W bet on him at a quarter unit.
I’m going to go with Jordan Spieth for a Top 4 Finish at 1/1 odds. Spieth has had two respectable finishes of 2nd and 1st here and he’s obviously a big tournament player.
I’m also going to place a quarter unit bet on Jason Day to win. He’s a hefty price of 7/1 and you know I don’t even know if there is any value in that. However I just have a weird feeling about him and I decided to take the risk on this one.
