Three NBA tips and one pick for game one of the World Series.
Atlanta Braves at Houston Astros Betting Tips:
I think that the Braves are lucky to be here. They were not an elite team during the regular season, winning the worst division in baseball, and they have the lowest win total of any playoff team. In the playoffs, that doesn’t matter. You can get hot and win games before the other team knows what hit them. That was the first two games against the Dodgers. That was hitting a homerun off Josh Hader with a lefty to beat the Brewers, something that didn’t happen all season.
The question is: Can they keep it going?
The Astros had a .792 OPS and a 4.42 ERA in the ALCS. The Braves had a .743 OPS and a 4.67 ERA in the NLCS.
Not a perfect comparison as the teams and ballparks were different, but the Astros are showing themselves as the better team in the playoffs, especially on the offensive end.
Charlie Morton gets the start for the Braves and he’s coming off a game in which he had six walks. His previous two starts in the playoffs were very good, but that one is a huge red flag. You don’t want runners on base against this Astros offense.
Framber Valdez is coming off of a 8 inning, one-run allowed start that basically won the series for the Astros as they had very few pitchers left behind him. I’m not sure he’ll go that deep here with the bullpen in better shape, but it’s good to know he has that in him.
My tip for the series is Astros -135. My tip for tonight? You guessed it, Astros -135.

Philadelphia 76ers at New York Knicks Betting Tips:
These two teams are going to have some serious battles this season. This will be the first of them and it takes place in New York where the fans have shown out strong for the Knicks early.
The Knicks are coming off a loss to Orlando so they should be hyper focused here. Were they looking forward to this one? Or just an off night? Doesn’t matter. They know they should’ve won that one and will look to make up for it here.
Philly has been solid, but I think the way that the Knicks use their starters max minutes is going to be a problem for them. Do they want to play Embiid 38 minutes? I don’t think they do. This is where the lack of Ben Simmons can show itself as the lack of depth will lead to some bad on/off numbers.

Los Angeles Lakers at San Antonio Spurs Betting Tips:
The Lakers haven’t quite been what’s to be expected of them to start the season, but that’s okay because it leads to lines like this. If they had been the type of team that we all think they will be then this line would be like -6. Take the gift.
This Spurs team is filled with interesting young players, but they just aren’t ready for the Lebron James-Anthony Davis 1-2 punch. Throw in Russell Westbrook who could piss off a Buddhist monk and they should be able to get a win here.

Denver Nuggets at Utah Jazz Betting Tips:
Normally this would be an easy pick for the Jazz as the Nuggets are on a back-to-back with travel, but there are two factors at play here. One, it’s early in the season and the lack of rest doesn’t hurt you as bad. Two, they lost to the Cavs last night and didn’t play their starters heavy minutes.
Denver should show up stronger here as they play a big division match-up. I like the Jazz and all, but -7 is just too much.
