Croatia and Nigeria are in Group D alongside Argentina and Iceland. Argentina and Iceland takes place earlier on Saturday, June 16th and then Croatia vs Nigeria will close out the day.

Croatia required qualification via the playoffs. They thumped Greece to do so and made it there after an impressive 6-2-2 record in the difficult Group I. Faced against teams like Iceland, Ukraine, Turky and Finland they showed impressive defensive performances and played a lot of tight games.

Nigeria weren’t mind blowing in qualification. They won 4, drew 1 and lost 1 in a group with Zambia, Cameroon and Algeria. Not that those teams are easy or anything but it’s an indication they may struggle against superior opposition.

Croatia Analysis:

I’m pretty torn on Croatia. I mean it’s tough to discount a team with players like Modric and Rakitic but this team is older and have their issues. We’re seeing a few changes that I’m not sure I’m sold on like Modric in the more advanced role.

They’re still mostly playing the 4-2-3-1 even though most people feel they should be doing 4-3-3.

Honestly I think Croatia are going to be a disappointment. I’m just not feeling them. I think a lot will lie in Kramaric and his performances. He could be make or break for them.

Nigeria Analysis:

This is a team you really don’t want to sleep on. They did struggle a bit in the qualifiers but there was still some tough teams there. They’ve got a lot of quality to their team.

There’s a lot of team confidence and cohesiveness which is always nice to see.

It’s going to be a tough group for them for sure however if they have the team chemistry going they could pull off upsets.

I’m not sold on either of these teams however there seems to be a strong team spirit going on in Nigeria.
