France vs Peru takes place on Thursday, June 21st. This will be the second game for both of these teams in the 2018 World Cup. They’ll go into this knowing how their other group mates fared, as Denmark vs Australia takes place just prior to this.
France defeated Australia 2-1 but it was not a good result for the French nor that good a performance. They’ll be hoping for a much better and more dominant performance here.
Peru looked like they deserved at least a draw against Denmark. Instead they lost 1-0 after also missing a penalty. They had their chances and their first half performance was solid.
They need a result in this game and it’s going to be an interesting one seeing them putting France under pressure and how the French handle it.

France Analysis:
To be honest it was a very disappointing performance from France against Australia. They were lacking the team performance and chemistry big time. Tactically it looks good with the way they have the three forwards set up but it didn’t mean anything at all in that game.
They never really pressured Australia and didn’t ever look too dangerous. There was no play between the likes of Griezmann, Mbappe and Demble and if you can’t team up well enough then you’ve got to at least perform as an individual and they just didn’t do that.
On paper they look excellent but that didn’t transition to the game at all and it’ll be interesting seeing what they’ve learned and what they can bring to this game.
Peru Analysis:
Peru played really well against Denmark and the result could have been quite different. Peru had numerous individuals perform extremely well and it’s one of those games where I’d say they dserved the draw.
it was a good performance and Cueva was excellent in his role. However France will play a different style than Denmark and it won’t just be “passing the ball to Eriksen and hoping for the best” like Denmark did – France have the creativity all over the place and that will cause problems for Peru.
The penalty miss might help them in terms of working as a team again – you’ll know the team will want to work together to help Cueva shake that loss. I’d think we see a similar performance where they come out upbeat, with a fast tempo and hoping to strike first.
However France are absolutely lethal on the counter attack and if Peru put on the pressure that’s going to come into play. We never really saw it much against Australia but we’ll see it here.
If you look at the xG map Peru only recorded an 0.9 which is a concern – it shows their main attacks were all breaking down before there was clear chances.

I had tipped Denmark to win over Peru and I almost hated that watching the game – Peru wanted it so bad and I wanted to cheer for them. That was one proud nation at being in the World Cup and I love to see that.
However when I look at this one I’ve got to go with France. If Peru put the pressure on the counter attack will kill them. Denmark really only played as if they had one player and France obviously have more than that. The three forwards didn’t combine well at all in the last game but they still have excellent talent amongst them.
