Sweden and Mexico face off at the same time as Germany and South Korea, in the last round of group F games in the 2018 World Cup.

All 4 teams could still qualify OR be eliminated from the World Cup so it makes for an intriguing day.

Mexico are top of the group with 6 points and a +2 goal difference after beating Germany 1-0 and South Korea 2-1. A draw will be enough to see them through in this one. The only way they can be eliminated is by losing to Sweden, and Germany winning by at least 2 goals – which is a possibility. After their performances it’d be crazy if that happened.

Sweden got off to a great start in a tight game against South Korea winning 1-0, and then got very unlucky against the Germans. They should be sitting here on 4 points loving life and instead they now need to win. I mean they could draw but it’s hard to see Germany losing to South Korea. No – Sweden needs to win this one.

Sweden Analysis:

I had liked Sweden when they played South Korea. I thought they played a solid controlling game and didn’t do anything too desperate.

Against Germany it was sort of similar – they did a great job at working the ball into the box and had a good few chances in the second half to take the lead.

I was disappointed they didn’t expose the German right flank like I wanted them to do. Forsberg was the guy I felt would be lethal for Sweden and yet both flanks were barely involved.

They need to come out and win this one but we all know Mexico will counter attack. Makes for a very intriguing game.

Mexico Analysis:

Another excellent performance from the Mexicans over South Korea and it will be a travesty if they get eliminated.

They have shown they have what it takes no matter who they are playing. South Korea had a very tight defense and they broke them down and worked away. And then of course the Germany performance.

It’ll be a travesty if Mexico go out yet that’s what could quite easily happen.

This is going to be a hell of a game. Have to expect a similar set up that they did versus Germany. They know the Swedes need the goals so will rely on the counter. But if Sweden score first? Yikes.

A lot depends on whether there’ll be a breakthrough in an early goal and who gets it. I expect Mexico to defend and counter while Sweden will have to push up.

If Mexico score first that’s ideal as the same will happen and I think that leads to a high scoring match. If Sweden score first they will probably sit back deep and Mexico will be able to unlock them.
