France vs Argentina kicks off the round of 16 on June 30th, 2018 in the 2018 World Cup.
It’s one of those matches that prior to the World Cup beginning would have people salivating. However after 3 games played by each team that really isn’t the case.
France on paper appear to be one of the most dangerous teams in the World Cup yet they haven’t really showcased that. They got here by topping their group after a 2-1 victory over Australia thanks to a penalty and an own goal, a 1-0 victory over Peru and a bore draw against Denmark.
Argentina have been something else entirely. At the very least with France you could say they have been solid defensively and they just aren’t really clicking offensively. Argentina drew 1-1 to Iceland which was a deserved point for either team. They then got absolutely thumped off Croatia and had that frantic 2-1 victory over Nigeria with Rojo wrapping it up in the 86th minute.

France Analysis:
I’m not too shocked that France are winning the Least Likely to Impress award so far in the World Cup. There was lots of questions about them and so far they haven’t been answered.
While offensively they haven’t been amazing they do a great job defensively. The back four rarely sees action and when they do they deal with it very well.
They also have a lot of special players who just require one bit of magic. Regardless of what you think about them they do look incredibly hard to beat.
Argentina Analysis:
Such a mess of a team tactically and with Maradona and his antics taking the headlines you just feel it’s one of those ridiculous things where they stumble their way into the final.
The role of Sampaoli in that last game seemed to be drastically reduced with Messi taking on a more authoritative role. Makes you wonder if that will assist in team chemistry going forward. As you know all these players would play their hearts out for Messi.
A real wild card going in here.
