I’m not a big fan of betting futures. There is just too much that can happen. This is a bet that I have been doing for every major tournament, and I’ve seen that play out. A nations star striker out of nowhere being dumped to the bench and only getting a brief cameo etc.
However it’s one of my favourite bets to make, where I go through each team and analyze them, and predict who the top goalscorer will be for them.
First – it’s just fun watching each game with that bet riding. I’ve had some quite nice 8/1 or 16/1 wins in the past on it too which is awesome.
Second – it’s my method for really studying the nations, figuring out tactics etc and so on which will help me for the actual World Cup matches.
So it’s your call if you want to follow these or not. Just a tradition for me to do these that I want to keep up.
I’m going to break it down by group.

Group A:
Ecuador:
Estrada was their top scorer in qualifying, but Valencia is the favourite and he has really showcased his goalscoring ability. I think the biggest concern here is that Ecuador go with the 4-3-3, and Valencia is the lone central striker. In saying that, we’ve seem them play with a 4-4-2 and also have Valencia moving out to the right, and seeing Estrada move into center. I’m fine rolling the dice on Estrada at 6.50. It’s all about whether he will get that playing time. I think they may get off to a rough start, which will see some changes made and Estrada getting featured.
Qatar: Two joint favourites here with Akram Afif and Almoez Ali. We see them roll out a 5-3-2 formation often. Both have been big goalscorers for Qatar. Honestly this one is a pure coinflip. I believe Ali will be their penalty taker, and if that’s the case then sign me up with Almoez Ali at 6.00. Like I said though this one really is just flip a coin one of these guys should be top goalscorer for Qatar.
Netherlands: Depay a heavy favourite here. In qualifying, he walked it with 12 goals. Next highest for them was Klaasen with 4. And he was very consistent too. Plus takes pens. The only concern of course is Depay with his injuries and then drama with Barca wanting to let him go for free. But you can’t overthink it. Depay at 2.50.
Senegal: A tough team to figure out as Cisse loves to change tactics on a whim. The big news is Sadio Mane will miss the game versus Holland. Now in terms of goalscoring who knows how big a factor that is – but I can’t bet him. I’ve been in this spot before and the guy never even got a game. It’s quite possibly he comes back, and gets some pens as well and boom any bet not on Mane are dead in the water. I’m gonna go with Boulaye Dia at 6.50. He’s been decent enough for Salernita. I also hope we get to see Pathe Ciss during this World Cup.
