There isn’t a lot going on in sports right now, but the things that are going on are pretty darn cool. Yesterday we saw a historic Wimbeldon match between top seed Novak Djokovic over a two set deficit to defeat Kevin Anderson. He powered back to win the final three sets and improve his record in five set matches to an outstanding 25-8. There are still two rounds to go, but it feels like he is on a collision course with Roger Federer in the finals. Here’s hoping it happens because that would be an amazing match.
In baseball, the Cardinals continued their dominance over division opponents as they shut out the Cubs in Chicago. They are an amazing 23-8 against division opponents on the season and that is a big reason why hold a six game lead in the National League Central with the best record in all of baseball. In the lone bright spot of the night for the Cubs, Jon Lester got his first career hit after going 0-for-71 before that. Although I’m sure he’d have traded that hit for a win any day.
Wimbeldon action is nearly done for the day, but we have a full slate of MLB games to pick from.
NBA Futures Betting Tips:
It is perhaps too soon to place any NBA Futures betting tips as there is still the possibility of injuries and things like that, but I think there is value in the Warriors 5/1 right now. Golden State is coming off a historic season with an ELO rating of 1822 that is the second best of all-time behind the 72-10 Chicago Bulls. ELO ratings are a simple measure that basically just add or subtract based on wins and losses and the quality of those wins. That the Warriors rank second in this rating of all time and are bringing everybody back for next year, but are currently far behind the top two favorites (Cavs at 11/4, Spurs at 3/1) to win the title next year seems a little ridiculous.
MLB Betting Tips:
Yovani Gallardo of the Rangers is currently engaged in a 29 1/3 innings scoreless streak as he takes the mound tonight in Texas against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He’ll go against Robbie Ray who is one of the better Arizona pitchers with just a 2.55 ERA thus far this season. While Texas is traditionally a hitter’s park and the total reflects that, but I think the quality of the starting pitching will win out tonight and this one will go Under 8.5 runs.
Last night’s Dodgers versus Phillies game was a high scoring affair that you don’t see too often at Chavez Ravine. A big part of that is the Phillies pitching who simply can’t keep the ball in the park. The Phillies offense does their best to keep up, but they fall behind more often than not. More of the same should be happening tonight as Chad Billingsley and his 9.00 ERA on the road goes for the Phillies. Brett Anderson goes for the Dodgers who should do well, although the Phillies do hit lefties pretty well. This one should go over 7.5 runs. For the season, Philadelphia has gone over in all 11 Tuesday games they’ve played this season and that should improve to twelve tonight.
