It’s almost the end of the second week of the Barclays Premier League season, and what a weekend of football we’ve had. Obviously all the headlines have gone to Manchester City, who thumped Chelsea 3-0. It’s always good to see Mourinho getting his just desserts. Well, unless you are a Chelsea fan, of course. It’s funny that we’re two games into the season and there are some pundits writing off Chelsea’s title chances already. Seriously. I mean, you have a side that is world class on paper, yet because they’ve got 1 point from a possible 6, their season is over. The way Manchester United and Arsenal have been playing, it’s not like any of the other title contenders other than Manchester City have really got into top gear yet. It’s a long season, don’t write Mourinho’s boys off just yet.

The other big news is that we have a new Major Champion in the golf. Jason Day won the USPGA in scintillating fashion, beating Jordan Speith by three strokes to record the lowest ever 72-hole total in a Major at 20-under. To be honest, although we didn’t have money on Day, it is good to see him get the Major he deserved, after some super consistent performances of late. He joins an elite list of Australian Major winners, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he picks up a few more. With Day, Speith and McIlroy at the helm, the quality of the golf isn’t going to dip any time soon, but we definitely do need some characters in the game.

Tonight, Liverpool are again the Monday Night Football team of choice, so we’ll have a look at that. We’ll also try and find some value in tonight’s MLB action. So let’s get to the free sports betting tips for August 17th, 2015.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Betting Tips:

All the talk before the start of the season, when it came to Bournemouth, was how they would continue to play their ‘brand’ of football. Well, against Aston Villa last week, that brand was lacking. They didn’t really threaten an average Villa side, and they lost 1-0. Now, away from home and against a tougher opponent, it is very difficult to see Bournemouth opening up and playing attacking football. Plus, it’s Liverpool, who didn’t exactly set the world on fire against Stoke. Liverpool are a team still in transition, and didn’t look too deadly last week. Basically, what I’m saying is that under 2.5 goals is the play here. Liverpool didn’t look like scoring many against a defensive-minded team like Stoke, and that is what they’re going to face tonight. On the other hand, Bournemouth didn’t look like scoring against a team that is, in theory, worse than Liverpool, at home, so why should they score at Anfield? Sure, both teams could surprise and go for it, but this early on, a point for Bournemouth would be huge, while Liverpool are going to be keen on just settling the side down and getting some consistency in their performances. 1-0 or 2-0 seem the likeliest outcomes here, so just take under 2.5 goals to cover the possible 0-0 or 1-1, too.

MLB Betting Tips:

Only the one selection for us in the MLB tonight, and we’ll be taking White Sox to beat the Angels. The Angels are struggling right now, and their relief pitching is just horrible. Yes, they’re back at home after a torrid time on the road, but then they’re facing a team that swept them just last week. Sure, the White Sox are no great shakes, but until the Angels show they’ve turned a corner, they should be opposed facing nearly any side, they’re just slumping that bad. Carlos Rodon went well against the Angels last week, after getting into a bit of both in the first, only to get out of it and pitch 7 very solid innings. White Sox are 11 out of 16 on the road, but, to be fair to the Angels, they are hot at home. But that is only adding to the value we’re getting on the White Sox. Get on and hope that the Angels’ slump continues.
