Usually I start the Monday post talking about the weekend we’ve just had in the NFL, but you’ll have to excuse me for a moment, as the English Premiership gave us so many talking points over the weekend that I have to mention it first. First of all, Newcastle, don’t piss off Manchester City. Go 1-0 up at the Etihad? Yeah, get ready to concede six. It doesn’t help Newcastle are awful. After that, Chelsea threw away a 1-0 lead to get smashed 3-1 by Southampton. At home. And then, on Sunday, not only does Dick Advocaat step down as Sunderland manager, but Brendan Rodgers FINALLY gets the boot from the Liverpool board. Oh, and Arsenal put three past a terrible Manchester United.

And again, before I get to the NFL, two rugby mentions, from the two different codes. First of all, massive congratulations to the North Queensland Cowboys fans, after their side beat the Brisbane Broncos in a classic NRL Grand Final. And what a fitting way to win it with JT getting the golden point after he missed the conversion on the buzzer. Seriously, if you haven’t seen the game, just sit down and watch it – it had everything. We can’t forget, either, England becoming the first home nation not to make it to past the group stages of the Rugby World Cup. The entire world is now laughing at England for their inability to dominate at a game they invented. But massive props to Australia, who put in one of the performances of the tournament on Saturday night. They’re going to obviously be in contention right up until the final, you would have thought.

Now, the NFL, what did we have? The London game wasn’t great, with the Jets running away with it, more or less. Kaepernick is struggling and is also getting rinsed by the opposition now. He is definitely not Russell Wilson, that’s for sure. Cowboys lose again. Broncos are somehow 4-0. And Andrew Luck must be wondering what his future holds.

So, a bit of a concise wrap-up, but sometimes it’s good to touch on other sports on a Monday. Now, because it’s International Week in football, there’s no English Monday Night Football, only the NFL game. So instead of the usual tip, I’ve got a bit of value for the World Grand Prix darts that’s taking place in Dublin.

Let’s get onto the free sports betting tips for October 5th, 2015.

Monday Night Football Betting Tip:

OK, the Lions vs Seahawks isn’t exactly the pinnacle of Monday Night Football, and if you’re a casual fan, hell, you might not be watching. But you know what, it’s interesting to see how Seattle cope against a side they’re expected to dominate against. It’s not been the best start to the season for last year’s runners-up, that’s for sure, so a convincing win over the Lions would help steady the ship and get them back to .500 after four weeks.

The one question the we have, really, is: how many points will Seattle put on the Lions? Honestly, I think it’s going to be a route. The Lions D is poor. So very, very poor. Even with the inconsistencies in the Seahawks’ O, their home form is unbelievable, while their opposition’s travelling record is woeful. The fact that Seattle put 26 on the Bears while shutting them out is the kind of score we can expect tonight, I think. It’ll be a long, long night for Lions fans. The line on Seattle is pretty low, so get on Seattle -9.5 and pray that the Lions don’t suddenly change overnight into a team of world beaters.

World Grand Prix Darts Betting Tip

The World Grand Prix is the only tournament on the PDC Tour that has a double-in start, which makes it pretty interesting, especially if the player you’ve backed couldn’t kind a barn door with a banjo, never mind a double with a dart. I backed Raymond van Barneveld against Mervyn King last year, when Barney was ‘injured’ and the sight of him missing double after double after double was heart-breaking. Anyway, lesson learnt with the Dutchman.

Anyway, the first round is best of three sets, and there’s an interesting match-up in the first match, which sees Andrew Gilding taking on Simon Whitlock. Whitlock’s form recently has been poor, while Gilding has shown some amazing performances on TV in the past 12 months. The bookies have Gilding as the underdog, but I think if he can get off to a quick start, Whitlock will crumble, as the fight seems to have gone from The Wizard. Andrew Gilding to beat Simon Whitlock is a huge piece of value tonight.

The rest of the matches look set for the favourites. If Mensur Suljovic had a kinder draw, he could have been value, but James Wade doesn’t struggle on the doubles too often. Justin Pipe should squeeze past Steve Beaton, but it’s a coin-flip, so no value on the prices. The same with Terry Jenkins and Mervyn King. Ian White and Jamie Caven is interesting, as apparently they’re practice partners. But White has looked good while Caven is slipping. If the odds start to move for Caven, sure, have a flutter, but I think Ian White looks good. There should also be comfortable wins for Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson and Robert Thornton, although with Anderson’s doubling, you never know.
