After a long All-Star break (for us, not the players), it’s time to get back to action in the NHL. We missed it over it’s break and are excited to see them get back to real action. Each team has around thirty games left and every game should matter for seeding. The Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals lead their respective divisions with the Capitals being the best team in the league right now. It will be interesting to see if they can keep it up and finally break through in the playoffs this season. They lead Florida by 11 points in the standings despite playing two less games. It’s going to take a lot from someone to knock them off of that number one seed.

The West is a bit tighter with the Blackhawks leading the way, but they have played three more games than the current two seed, Dallas, and four games more than the LA Kings. This one should be a battle until the end. The Kings are the team to watch here as this is the best this team has looked in a couple of years. Of course, the Blackhawks won’t go down easily and are hoping for yet another Stanley Cup.

We also have a full slate of NBA games tonight highlighted by the Miami Heat at the Houston Rockets. The Rockets have been sort of rounding themselves into shape and Dwayne Wade versus James Harden should be a fun match-up to watch.

NBA Betting Tips:

Houston are losers of three straight including last time out against the lowly Washington Wizards. They are in a real rut right now. Meanwhile, the Heat have won four straight and have the better record on the season. They haven’t played as well on the road this season, but three of their past four wins have been away from home. They’ll most likely be without Hassan Whiteside tonight, but that hasn’t hurt them as much as you would think. Miami +5 is the play here as they’ve been on a roll and the Rockets are seemingly always on the verge of blowing up.

Is there a sadder situation in the NBA than the Phoenix Suns? Two years ago they were one of the most exciting young teams in the NBA. Even the first month of this season they were one of the most exciting young teams in the NBA, but then it all fell apart. They fired their assistants, then they fired their coach and their two best players are out with an injury. They are just 2-16 since Christmas. That’s Philadelphia-level bad and the sad thing is it’s not on purpose. They play the Raptors tonight who are going hard in the Eastern Conference. They should roll tonight, Toronto -9 in a route of Phoenix.

NHL Betting Tips

Dallas headed into the break with a 3-6-1 record, but they are one of the top teams in the Western Conference. I have to think that the rest did them some good and they should come into the second half guns blazing. They play the lowly Winnipeg Jets tonight so that definitely helps. The Stars -120 should rebound nicely from the break and I like them to hang strong in second half.

The top team in the West is the Chicago Blackhawks and they face a team they’ve had a bit of trouble with over the past few seasons tonight as they face the Colorado Avalanche. They have an 8-5 record against Chicago over the past few seasons and Chicago is a much different team on the road. The Hawks will be without Jonathan Toews and you have to like the Avalanche +130 at home tonight.
