We’ve got an interesting game with Italy vs Croatia. Italy put in a solid performance against Spain in getting a 1-1 draw, while Croatia looked good with a 3-1 victory over Ireland.
Both teams looked good, and the Italy vs Croatia betting odds reflect that;
As you can see, it’s quite tight. I think a big factor for Italy is the strikers – if Balloteli plays then I have a lot less faith in the Italians. Croatia meanwhile have Jelavic who is a fantastic striker, and other great goalscorers.
At those odds, I really don’t think there is much value in Italy winning. I also don’t love the Croatia odds – I was hoping they would be quite a bit higher.
Italy will be more relaxed, having drawn Spain. Croatia will be the team that want this game just that bit more.
Honestly, I think these teams cancel each other out enough that the draw is the best bet. I’ll just be betting small on that one though.

I must admit, I’m a bit surprised at the Italian odds. I really thought they would be more heavily favoured, and I see great value here. If Italy put in a good workout against Spain, then their odds will reduce. And I really think they will.
I really see great value – bet Italy to beat Croatia. The worst-case scenario is Croatia win their first game against Ireland and Italy lose – but even then, the odds shouldn’t really shoot up against Italy. More likely, Italy will see their odds decrease which means betting now is most important – you will get the most value that way.
So that’s my pick prior to the opening games – bet Italy to defeat Croatia.
I also see this being a close affair, so Draw-Italy at 4/1 at is great value too. I’d stay away from Under 2.5 goals – 13/20 is icky.
