On June 24th, 2014 we get the final two games in Group D. It’s been one of the craziest groups of all, with Costa Rica picking up major wins over Italy and Uruguay. Now those two teams face off in a crucial, crucial game for second place.
Italy got off to a great start in the World Cup, by defeating England. Tactically they looked sound, and very creative when attacking. However it was the exact opposite against Costa Rica. They played a much more flat 4-1-4-1 formation which just did not work out for them. Balloteli was horrible as expected in that role, and the Italians looked extremely poor. Their refusal to start Immobile is still one of the biggest head scratchers of the World Cup for us.
Uruguay were hammered 3-1 by Costa Rica in a game where they could not do a thing right when it came to possession. They had a better showing against England defeating them 2-1, with Luis Suarez the hero there. He was absent from the game against Costa Rica.
Now in this crucial match-up – it’s thankfully fairly straightforward. If Italy win or draw, they go through. If Uruguay win, they go through. Goal difference etc doesn’t factor in. And although if England beat Costa Rica, one of these two teams could top the group – it’s likely that is far from their minds.

Italy vs Uruguay Betting Tips:
We believe the best bet here is Uruguay.
Suarez is playing, and Uruguay are going to be up for that. They’ll be carrying the momentum from the match against England. We also learned from that game that Uruguay just don’t give up. Yes – Italy don’t exactly have Steven Gerrard to gift the Uruguay team the ball – but still; Uruguay are a highly creative team that has a new lease of life in them with the return of Suarez.
Then we have Italy. As noted above, there were two different Italian teams shown during the World Cup when it comes to tactics. If they field the same formation as they did against Costa Rica? Then Uruguay will beat them. If they field the same style against England? Well then it’s still more of a coinflip.
So based on that, it just makes sense to bet Uruguay to win. You could play it a bit safer with Uruguay to win, draw no bet at 1/1 but I think for this one, it’s best to go for that little bit more value and go with 19/10 odds on Uruguay to win.

Uruguay vs Italy Betting Props:
Honestly this game is so big, and with a bet like Uruguay to win – I think it’s best that we just stick with that.
If you’re not too confident in Uruguay – and I don’t blame you – betting Luis Suarez as anytime goalscorer at 8/5 odds isn’t bad. He’s also 5/1 for both first goalscorer and last goalscorer, but those bets always make me dicey. Go with Suarez anytime scorer.
