Russia are making most of the headlines off the field, with a lot of issues with their fans. Absolutely crazy to think they’ll soon be hosting the World Cup. Granted you don’t mess with the Russian police – but either way pretty sure I wouldn’t be attending that one if you paid me.
Although considering I’m Scottish there’s not much there for me anyway. Sigh.
So it was a very flat Russian side against English. They had just two shots on target throughout the game and 6 shots in total. Even when Russia were behind they didn’t show much hunger to win the game. I mean someone like Wayne Rooney is so creative and should be shut down and yet they let him control the midfield.
You have to feel bad for Slovakia. They dominated possession but were sloppy with their shots. Wales were there for the taking – Danny Ward didn’t look comfortable at all – but they just couldn’t get it on target enough. Then they conceded goals from a set piece and a mis-kick. They’ll be frustrated after that one as that puts a lot of pressure on them.

After the two games yesterday I was leaning towards Slovakia if the price was right – and thankfully it is.
England are the clear favourites in the group. With Slovakia having lost to Wales, this is an absolutely must win game for them so they will be doing everything they can here to do just that.
Like I said they looked good against Wales. There was a couple of issues with that game that threw them off – Ward being in for example caused them to be a bit sloppier. They wanted to get the shots on target but didn’t take their time and so we didn’t see as many shot attempts as we should have.
Of course that’s a bit par for the course with Slovakia who average around 4.3 shots on target per game. But I think their attack will be able to take down a Russian squad who I just feel are the weak link of the group.
Some people may think they were just flat and will turn things around – I have that exact same thought about England for example – but I just don’t see it here. I think Slovakia are very solid value and this is almost a pickem in my opinion. So I’ll be backing the value here.
