Ireland left it late to qualify as one of the top third-placed teams in the competition, after beating Italy 1-0. Ireland opened their tournament with a 1-1 draw with Sweden, before being swept aside 3-0 by a dominant Belgium. However, that win over Italy was enough to get them through to the Round of 16. Ireland’s 2 goals have come from Wes Hoolahan and Robbie Brady. Their performances have shown the usual Irish spirit and will have felt unfortunate not to have beaten Sweden after a Ciaran Clark own goal.
France have faced Ireland only twice in history, with both games coming in the early 1950s. France have won 1 and there has been 1 draw, but let’s not read too much into that simply due to the fact it was well over a generation ago.

The odds are exactly what we would expect for this match, and France are deserving favourites.
