We’re on day four without real baseball and I am more than ready for it to come back. It’ll be back tomorrow thankfully. We took a look at the division odds on Tuesday and today we are going to look at the top awards in baseball and their current odds. The MVP and Cy Young races are starting to become clearer and with an injury to Clayton Kershaw there suddenly becomes some real value available on the National League side. The AL MVP is a bit more interesting with the clear best player playing on one of the worst teams in baseball. There is a lot of baseball left, but the landscape is starting to become clear and we feel good about making these plays.

We’ll also have a CFL tip today as the high scoring Edmonton Eskimos head to Winnipeg to face the Blue Bombers.

MLB Props Betting Tips:

There are a lot of variables to take into play when betting on individual award player props so we recommend betting a quarter unit to a half unit at most on these plays. Injuries happen, regression happens and baseball is a team sport. Picking individual awards is tough.

NL Cy Young: The race for best pitcher is so tight that whoever wins runner-up should probably get the American League Cy Young. That’s how good the pitching is in the National League right now. With Clayton Kershaw on the DL and his timetable on a return unknown, I think he won’t win this award this season despite his big league in WAR (Wins Above Replacement). Jose Fernandez +1400 is a great play as he’s next up in WAR, but my favorite play is Madison Bumgarner +450. He has just a 1.94 ERA, three complete games, 146 strikeouts and a 10-4 record. Plus, with how great the Giants have player you have to think the Cy Young voters will want to “award” the Giants season. Still, the odds on Jose Fernandez are so great compared to his numbers that I might just throw a quarter unit bet on that as well because these two are so close.

Clayton Kershaw could come back and wipe out both of these guys, but with a slightly herniated disc in his back I think it’s worth the risk.

NL MVP: Speaking of voters “awarding” a team’s performance, it seems like that what will happen here with Kris Bryant +250 and the MVP. He’s the most deserving hitter in the NL by WAR and this entire season has been a love affair with the Chicago Cubs and their great team that I don’t expect to end until October.

AL MVP: This should come down to the same two players that it came down to last season, Mike Trout and Josh Donaldson. Last year Trout was once again the best player in the league, but his team was so bad that Josh Donaldson was able to ride a great season and steal his thunder. That could happen again this year as the Jays look poised to make another run at the AL East and the Angels are terrible once again. When you consider the fact that Josh Donaldson has actually improved over last season and they are separated by just 0.1 WAR, he seems like a great play here. Josh Donaldson +375.

CFL Betting Tips:

The Bombers just won their first game of the season, but they’ll probably have to wait for their second as they face Edmonton tonight. The Eskimos should come out hot and hopefully have made some adjustments to avoid a last collapse as we’ve seen from them earlier this season. I just love their offense tonight and I think they beat Winnipeg easily. Edmonton -3
