It’s Friday the 24th of October, last day of the working week and after a glut of spot for the rest of the week, what better way to unwind after a hard week at work that more sport? Fans of soccer, CFL and NHL and MLB all have something to relax to today before we all just sit on front of the TV all weekend indulging in as much sport as possible.

Today, there’s soccer on across Europe, with televised games coming from Scotland, England, Ireland, Germany and Spain being the highlights. The two fixtures in the CFL tonight are the Alouettes taking on the REBLACKS and the Roughriders facing the Stampeders, so a lot of interest there for CFL fans. Five games in the NHL tonight, so you’re spoilt for choice. And, of course, we have Game 3 of the World Series tonight, with the Royals heading to San Francisco.

Aberdeen vs Motherwell:

We head to Scotland and it’s a tale of two teams in this match. Aberdeen are playing well, with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat in their last 5 matches. They’re now sitting reasonably pretty in sixth place in the league. The fact that their defeat came at the hands of high-flying Hamilton sums up the forms that the Dons are in. The only concern is that Clark Robertson and Russell Anderson are still out, which leaves a whole at the back.

However, that hole might not be enough for Motherwell to exploit. Looking back over Motherwell’s last 5 games, they’re winless, although a draws against Hamilton and Celtic aren’t bad at all. But heavy defeats from Hamilton, Partick Thistle and Dundee sum up the torrid time they’re having. And a long trip to Aberdeen on a Friday night is the last thing they want.

The fact is, form talks here. Aberdeen have been scoring goals, with 12 in their last 5 games, going scoreless last time out against Hamilton. So, prior to that, they were scoring, on average, 3 a game. Motherwell have scored 3 in their last 5, conceding 11. They’re going to concede a few more tonight. Motherwell are a club in crisis and Stuart McCall doesn’t seem to know what to do. This is a perfect chance for Aberdeen to leapfrog Celtic and we think they will take it convincingly, exposing a weak Motherwell defense with their goalscoring abilities. The handicap is where we’ll play tonight, as Aberdeen are good enough to win this by more than one. In fact, Motherwell are bad enough to lose this by several.

Kansas City Royals vs San Francisco Giants

The World Series is already tied up at 1-1, and the Giants will be more than happy with that as the series heads to the West Coast. Taking anything from Kansas City is a huge result for them, and they will be confident of carrying this on, especially with the inexperience most of the Royals’ roster have at AT&T Park, which is perhaps one of the quirkiest in all of Major League Baseball.

In a series that is hard to split, little things like home advantage are going to be key, especially in San Francisco, and the Giants will be trying top capitalize on it, which we think they can and will do. The Royals swept the Giants in Kansas City in the regular season, but the sweep can’t happen this time, which makes us think the Giants now have the edge. We like the Giants here, and we think they are going to have all the confidence going into tonight and should see off a spirited Royals performance.

Vancouver Canucks vs Colorado Avalanche

There’s no denying the fact that the Colorado Avalanche has looked poor this season. From defensive lapses to their inability to score, and add in their poor conversion at power plays, you can see why they have only 1 win out of 7 so far this season. And it doesn’t help that they are hosting an in-form Vancouver team tonight.

The bonus for the Avalanche is that they have Semyon Valamov back in goal, although even he hasn’t been able to help them at the start of the season. The Avalanche are on a run that doesn’t look like ending any time soon, and if they continue to let in 3+ goals a game, it’s going to be hard for them to turn it round. The Canucks are the dogs here, which is quite some value for a team that are full of confidence, especially after a resounding 4-1 win at St Louis helping them rebound from their only their second defeat of the season. When the tide turns for the Avalanche and they start putting some wins together, they will be a threat, but until then, we’re looking to find the value against them and ride that train.

Calgary Stampeders vs Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Roughriders are on the back of a 4 game losing streak, and they won’t be happy facing the Stampeders tonight. The Stampeders ran out 7 point winners at the start of October, and have since locked up the top spot in the West.

Roughriders are 11 point dogs here, which is a lot of points, considering Calgary haven’t actually blown teams away for a few weeks. They haven’t actually won by more than 10 since the start of September, and with very little left to play for, the foot might come off the gas a bit. Plus, the Roughriders are no slouches, knowing they have to win here to keep the BC Lions off their tails. While the Riders’ losing streak might not end tonight, it could be a lot closer than the line suggests. 11 points is huge, so we’re on it.
