The AL Wild Card race refuses to straighten itself as all of these teams are still a great weekend from being in it or an awful weekend from being out of it.
The Seattle Mariners just had a great weekend and now find themselves 1.5 games out. More encouraging for them is that they finally returned to .500 and got their run differential in the positive. Of course, they still have two games against the Astros and then a series with the Yankees coming up over the weekend. That could clear a few things up.
Speaking of the Yankees, they have the best run differential of anybody in the race at +98, but continue to struggle. After starting so hot they are now at 47-44 and in the second Wild Card position. The Twins, -68 run differential, are now just a 0.5 games back and we could see them lose that spot tonight.
The big story is the Rays though who have moved into the top spot. They are 7-3 over their last ten games which has vaulted them to 50-44. The Yankees are still the favorite here thanks to their run differential, but the Rays are one to watch going forward.
MLB Betting Tips:
The Yankees -122 get a great chance to rebound tonight as they face off with old friend Bartolo Colon in Minnesota. Colon was released from the Braves for poor performance and now tries his hand in Minnesota. I expect the 44-year old to be in for a bad time against the Yankees offense today. His 8.14 ERA with a 1.78 WHIP on the year actually makes Luis Cessa look like a good option here.
I didn’t write tips here yesterday, but if I had I would’ve been all over the over in the Baltimore/Texas game. Both offenses let me down last night though, which makes me doubt that they’ll do so again here. These teams can hit homeruns in bunches and these pitching staffs aren’t great. Dylan Bundy has been rocked lately with a 7.87 ERA over his last three starts. Tyson Ross doesn’t go deep into games and that Rangers bullpen is bad. Give me the over 10.5 runs here.
The Rays -110 continue their series with Oakland tonight and send Blake Snell to the mound. Snell has had a rough season, but is coming off a good start against the Cubs. He spent some time in the minors recently and hopefully that straightened him out. He gets a good match-up tonight and the Rays offense should be able to hit Chris Smith. A solid match-up for a hot team.
The game of the night last night was Seattle and Houston as they led yo-yo’d between the teams and it took ten innings to finish. Houston is the best team in baseball and Seattle has won six straight. I think the line on Houston is way too high, but at the same time Sam Gaviglio is starting for the Mariners. I think I’m going to play it safe here and take the over 9.5 runs. Both of these offenses are hot and can score runs in a hurry.
