With the trade deadline coming up, the pressure is really on teams to make themselves known. Now is the time when teams are forced to decide if they are going to contend or if they are going to sell out for next year. The possibility of standing pat is always there, but it’s a tough move to make when every other team is improving or gaining future assetA s. At the trade deadline, the middle is the worst place to be for a baseball team.
A few teams have already made their moves. The Cubs got Jose Quintana, the Mariners added David Phelps and Marco Gonzales, and the Diamondbacks got JD Martinez. There are some big names out there that could still potentially moved with Yu Darvish of the Rangers being the latest name to enter the fray. In New York, there is some smoke about Giancarlo Stanton heading to New York which would be a pretty crazy move. There are only two guys in the league who can hit the ball 440 feet consistently and if the Yankees had both? That would be scary.
Stay tuned for more trades, but until then let’s take a look at tonight’s games.
MLB Betting Tips:
The Milwaukee Brewers are holding on by a thread in the NL Central race against the Cubs and they have really struggled since the All-Star break. They are a key candidate to make a move as even if they lose the Central division lead, they are still a strong Wild Card contender. One reason they need to make a move is the starting pitching quality and tonight’s starter Zach Davies is a big reason for that. The young starter had big hopes this season, but his ERA at 4.76 and his WHIP at 1.48 are not great. He somehow has a 11-4 record this year, but he has not been good. He’ll go against Edwin Jackson tonight who isn’t any great shakes either. I think this game is a great candidate to go over 10 runs and being one of the true slugfests of the night.
A week ago we had a pitching match-up in Kansas City between the Royals the Tigers with Michael Fulmer going for Detroit against Danny Duffy. The final score of that game? 16-4. While I don’t quite think we are going to see a repeat of that crazy score, I am not going to bet on the favorite who we were on the losing side of that game. I don’t think I can trust Fulmer against this KC offense that just owned him. Give me Royals +130.
Tampa Bay starts young Jacob Faria tonight against the Orioles. Faria has had some really impressive starts this season and I’m interested to see how he does against this offense. That’s not why I’m taking the Rays -125 though. No, the reason I am taking Tampa Bay is because Wade Miley is pitching for Baltimore and he is my favorite pitcher to go against in the game. The Rays hit a lot of homeruns and Miley gives up a lot. This is a great deal on a terrible pitcher.
