It is finally here, the return of the NFL season is finally here. With it we see a great match-up of AFC teams including the defending champion New England Patriots. The way the Super Bowl ended last year, with one of the greatest comebacks you will ever see, has solidified the Patriots as one of the all-time great dynasties and Tom Brady as one of the all-time great quarterbacks. They are not without controversy, but even the greatest Patriots hater has to admit that all they do is win.
The Patriots are a large favorite tonight at -8 with the over and under set at 48 points. The Patriots should win this one, but the question is: how close will it be?
NFL Betting Tips:
The first thing you notice when you look at the Chiefs is the running back situation. It is bad. Spencer Ware’s season ending injury put a damper on things and now rookie Kareem Hunt isn’t living up to his billing. Expect more of a three-headed monster situation with Hunt, Charcandrick West and C.J. Spiller. That has to bold well for the Patriots in this one as time shares are almost always an issue, especially early in the season.
Putting a large load on Alex Smith’s shoulders is not ideal either. He is a perfectly serviceable QB, but he isn’t a guy who is going to carry the offense. The Patriots should game plan well for him and I expect their point output to be low.
The Patriots are the Patriots. Which means, the Patriots -8 are a strong play here. They obliterated the sportsbooks last season, going 16-3 against the spread and I expect that to continue here.
MLB Betting Tips:
While the excitement of football season is great, there is still money to be made betting on baseball. Let’s take a look at some of today’s best bets.
The National League Central is the only division with any drama heading down the stretch. The Cubs are being chased by the Cardinals and the Brewers while those two teams are trying to catch the Rockies in the Wild Card race as well. There are two pretty interesting games involving these teams tonight.
Pittsburgh is out of this race, but they have the opportunity to play spoiler with their remaining schedule. They face the Cubs tonight at home with Jameson Taillon on the mound. Taillon has pitched well this year, but has had some bad luck and a couple of real stinkers. He goes against Jon Lester who has two straight bad starts, especially by his standards. The only problem here is that the Pirates offense is hobbled and weak while the Cubs are the Cubs. There is a bit of risk in Lester, but overall the Cubs are the much better team and they should win this one. Cubs -130
The Cardinals -125 throw Lance Lynn to the mound tonight against the lowly Padres. While the Padres run prevention has been a surprise this year, they still can’t hit. The Cardinals are one of the better teams over the past couple of months and this seems like an easy win and a great line.
