Nothing says Fourth of July in the USA like baseball. The true American sport is front and center on this week as the American holiday fills the game with tons of patriotism.
I’m not really interested in all the patriotism stuff, but I do like having a full slate of games, especially the early start ones.
The playoff situation is the National League is pretty right open right now. The Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Giants and Rockies are all jockeying for position in the West and the Wild Card. While the Brewers, Cubs and Cardinals battle in the Central. The East is perhaps the most surprising with the Braves in first place followed by the Phillies and Nationals.
The American League is a bit more set in stone. You have the Yankees and Red Sox in the East, the Indians in the Central and the Astros and Mariners in the West. The Athletics are eight games behind the Mariners for the second Wild Card while the Rays are twelve back. The Mariners have been crazy lucky this year, but that is a huge lead and a hard one to blow.
All of these teams could be looking to add at the trade deadline at the end of this month and it’s getting to the point where results are getting more and more important.
I went undefeated in MLB here last Thursday so let’s see try and deliver some more winners.
MLB Betting Tips:
The Red Sox are, of course, doing battle with the Yankees for AL East supremacy. They’ve been a rumored destination for Manny Machado which would really be some crazy stuff. They face the Nationals today who, if things don’t start getting better, might have to consider trading Bryce Harper. Now, that would be really crazy.
I love the Red Sox in this match-up. The books have set this up as a coinflip game which I think is a mistake. Tanner Roark is nothing great while the Red Sox offense hits right handed pitchers better than anyone. Brian Johnson is no great shakes as a starter, but the Nationals offense has really struggled against lefties this year and are really struggling to put runs up this season. I’m all over the Red Sox -110 in this one.
Another one of my favorite picks today is the Yankees -1.5 against the Braves. This is a pretty simple home/road play and a splits play as well. The Yankees are great at home, Domingo German has performed much better at home and the Yankees absolutely destroy left handed pitchers. Sean Newcomb is having a great season, but Yankee Stadium is not kind to left handed pitchers and the humidity should send the ball flying.
This also feels like a great day to grab the under 8 runs on the Athletics and Padres. (Take the 8.5 under if you can find it. It was up earlier.) Clayton Richard is a groundball machine and the Oakland offense has really struggled against lefties this year. Chris Bassitt is having a great season and the Padres offense is one of the worst in the game. Sometimes it’s just that simple. This just feels like a 3-2 or 4-2 type of game and I feel really comfortable going under on it.
