The NFL season continues with the first game of Week 3 as the Cleveland Browns host the New York Jets. The Browns have been the very worst team in the league over the past several seasons with a record of 1-35-1 over their past 37 games, but things are looking up for them. They got a tie in the first week of the season and this week we have the first sign of the apocalypse: they are actually favored in this game.
That may sound like a joke (and it is), but this is actually the first time the Browns have been favored at home since 2015. For perspective on how long ago that was, Johnny Manziel was the starting quarterback, the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 was one of the top movies in theaters and “Hello” by Adele was the top song. Light years ago.
They are the favorite because they are facing the Jets who got a huge win in week one and then played a really ugly game against Miami. While the Browns tied in week one and had the chance to tie late in week two. They are a missed field goal away from a 0-0-2 record.
New York Jets vs. Cleveland Browns Betting Tips:
Both of these teams will have more success when they run the ball. The quarterbacks they have are competent, but they aren’t the kind of players that you want throwing the ball fifty times per game. I am looking for this to be a very defensive game with both teams fighting for possessions. Neither one of these teams can truly scare you on offense and both defenses have the talent to make shut down plays. I think Cleveland is destined to play the kind of 18-21 game they played last week all season long.
The Jets at +3 seem like a good pick, but it’s just so hard with Sam Darnold at quarterback. Week 1 he looked like the next great Jets quarterback, last week he looked more like Mark Sanchez. Rookie QBs are tough and I don’t feel comfortable backing him against a defense like this.
Instead, the play I am going with is the under. Neither one of these offenses impresses me much and both defenses have been very good this season. I see this being a 17-14, kind of game and that should easily cruise to the under.

MLB Betting Tips:
The hottest team in the league right now that nobody is talking about because they are essentially out of the playoff race is the Tampa Bay Rays. They are just killing teams right now and I expect them to continue that trend tonight against the Blue Jays. They will be bullpening this game and that could not have worked out better as the whole staff has bought in.
Sam Gaviglio goes for the Jays and he has really been struggling in the second half of the season. The Rays have been an offensive juggernaut of late with a 144 wRC+ over the past two weeks. That should continue here and they should continue to win.
