A 1-0 record last night.

The Sixers and Pacers started off playing a close game, but in the second half Philly just took off and didn’t look back. They outscored the Pacers 66-58 in the second half and won 120-96. An absolutely huge road win with Jimmy Butler leading the way with 27 points.

The game was not without drama though as Joel Embiid was listed as questionable with a back injury and ended up playing. He came out sluggish, but ended up getting it done and having a good game. It’s just so crazy to see with how careful this team was with his health in the past to continue to put him out there like that. Charles Barkley absolutely tore them up for it calling them “the stupidest organization in the history of sports”. The Sixers are a fringe contender in the East, in my opinion, but if something happens to Embiid? They are done. Tread carefully.

A full slate of games on the docket today. Not much I love, but let’s see what’s out there.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Boston Celtics: This line is out of line. The Grizzlies are 1-7 against the spread in January and the books seem like they are trying to give them another win in that category. They are +11 and it is very tempting to take. Boston has been awesome at home this season, 15-5 against the spread, and I just don’t like going against a team with a record like that. I don’t think they should be giving up 10+ points with what is going on with them though.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Minnesota Timberwolves: This is the fourth time these teams have matched up this year and the home team has held serve in each one. The last two have been huge margins for the home teams and the Spurs are kind of figuring things out right now. I just like the Spurs better as a team and think their veteran status can steal one here. Graeme likes the Wolves -1, but I am just not convinced.

Miami Heat vs. Detroit Pistons Betting Tips:

This is a bet on Blake Griffin. Statistically, this might be his best season ever with 25.5 points per game (his best ever), 8.1 rebounds, and 5.2 assists. I think he is pretty clearly going to be the best player on the floor tonight and can get the win for his team here. They won against Orlando last time out, have the Heat tonight, and the Kings at home on Sunday. This is a three-game stretch where they can get themselves back in the race and I think Blake knows that. I am expecting a big game from him and the Pistons to hold court here.

It won’t be easy as the Heat are a tough road team. They got absolutely murdered by the Bucks last time out to start their road trip. I think they play harder here, but the road and the cold can be tough. They’ll put up a game, but I think the Pistons just need this more.
