A 1-0 record to end May on a happy note.
The Indians nearly blew this one as they had an 8-0 lead before having this game become tied late. They were able to score a run and win this thing 9-8, but that did not feel good for a minute there. The Indians have the second worst bullpen by FIP in the league right now and that is something we’re going to have to keep an eye on. Outside of Cody Allen and Andrew Miller (currently on DL), they just aren’t what they’ve been the last couple years.
I’ve slacked a bit of late and haven’t been keeping up the record. I’ll get on that later this afternoon and we’ll take a full look at May and the season to date.
I know you’ve heard me talk about FanDuel which is daily fantasy baseball that I play nearly every day. If anyone wanted to give it a shot they are offering $10 free to new users this weekend. No better time to check it out.
A full slate of games today with some new series kicking off. A lot that I’m liking today so let’s get right into it.
New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs Betting Tips:
Tyler Chatwood is a pitcher that makes absolutely no sense. He has a 8.19 K/9 and a 8.38 walks/9. Despite those insane walk numbers, his ERA/FIP is just 4.10/4.76. That just doesn’t make sense. You can’t walk people like that and have sustained success. The Mets have a nice .749 OPS against righties on the year with a 9% walk rate. They will have runners and they will have chances.
He goes against Zack Wheeler and his 5.40 ERA/4.02 FIP. He’s definitely had some bad luck and due for some regression, but the Cubs .778 OPS is third in baseball against righties and they are one of the hottest teams in baseball over the past two weeks. I feel like the Cubs are going to win, but I am not interested in that bet. I am all about the over in this one.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Tips:
I haven’t been on Miles Mikolas much this year, but he’s been great and he is (crazily) the best pitcher to come from the NPB this year. He has a 2.58 ERA/3.17 FIP on the year and has been one of the more consistent players for the Cardinals this year. He keeps his walks down and has barely allowed any homers on the year. The Pirates offense hits righties well, but has been coming a bit more down to earth of late and I like the Cards in this spot.
Jameson Taillon is having a solid season with a 4.53 ERA/3.87 FIP, but he does have blow-up potential and his home/road splits aren’t that pretty. His walks get a bit higher and his strikeouts go down. The Cardinals offense is really starting to come on of late and I like St. Louis in this one.

Cleveland Indians vs. Minnesota Twins Betting Tips:
I love Carlos Carrasco and Jose Berrios, and I don’t want to have to choose. I think both of them are starting this one off great and the first five under 4.5 is my favorite play here. There are going to be some strong winds blowing in which should help keep the scoring down and the aces should do the rest.
