The NBA is back, finally!
When we last left off, we were on fire. Our NBA tips were +25 units in January and February and we were gearing up for a strong run towards the playoffs. That didn’t happen as planned thanks to *all this*, but the NBA is back and we will see a champion crowned this year.
The way the NBA has handled the return to play should be applauded as their league and the health of their players is in much better shape than the MLB right now. The situation isn’t perfect for the players and their families, but the quarantining measures that the league has taken should ensure that we get a champion crowned and that the team that wins it all will be the team that plays the best, not the one that survives the deadly virus the best.
The league is set-up for eight games of seeding before we get to the playoffs proper. It’s going to be interesting to see how teams handle these eight games as teams like the Bucks and Lakers don’t need to do a whole lot to ensure their spot in the playoff seeding. Plus, it’s not like seeding matters as much without home court advantage. There is still match-up stuff and you don’t want to end up playing two monsters in a row, but the home court advantage aspect is completely shot here.
Sure they have the video boards with fans and all that, but it’s not the same. You can match the noise, but you’ll never match the energy. The basketball will still be good because these are the best players in the world, but it’s going to be a different game in the bubble. The competitiveness will still be there, but it will be different.

Utah Jazz vs. New Orleans Pelicans Betting Tips:
Zion Williamson is listed as a game time decision here which does change the outlook of this game quite a bit. All of the conspiracy theorists think the whole reason for this 8-game seeding tournament is for the Pelicans to find a way into the playoffs so that we can get Zion in the playoffs so it’d be pretty funny if he missed his first game back.
The Pelicans need to win to make that a possibility and they are a slight favorite here at -2.5.
However, I wouldn’t discount the Jazz. They were the fourth seed in the West and they are a very solid defense team. Rudy Gobert was the first NBA player to get coronavirus and he’s been called the reason that the NBA shutdown. He’s not exactly happy with that label and I think he’ll be pretty motivated here. That whole situation caused some dissension between him and Donovan Mitchell, but I think they work out their issues on the floor. This team is too well-coached and too talented to be torn apart like that.
The Zion question mark is a tough one, but I think the Jazz are going to make their mark here.
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Los Angeles Lakers Betting Tips:
Both LeBron James and Anthony Davis are listed as game time decisions which is pretty laughable. Imagine LeBron James, the greatest player and brand in the universe, sitting out what is going to be one of the most-watched games of the year. Yeah, right.
The Lakers have a 5.5 game lead on the Clippers for the top seed in the West and with a win here could all but seal that up. I think that is exactly what is going to happen as the team treats this one like the big one and then relaxes the minutes on LeBron and Davis going forward. They are going to play this one hard and play it to win.
I also think the Lakers got some major addition by subtraction with Rajon Rondo’s injury. That opens up more playing time for Alex Caruso who the Lakers stars play much better with. The Clippers will be without Lou Williams who is out for a wings related incident and that is one player that is just irreplaceable on their roster as no one else does what he does.
Lakers are going to roll here as LeBron brings us all a sense of normalcy.
