Final day of the UK Open, and you’d have struggled to pick the final eight men left in the competition. Adrian Lewis is one man you wouldn’t be surprised to see in the quarter-finals, but his opponent, Mensur Suljovic, is one man you wouldn’t have expected to get this far. Kevin Painter and Mervyn King are two men that you know can play well, and their quarter-final should be a classic. Michael van Gerwen takes on Ian White, and Terry Jenkins continues his return to form as he faces the in-form Brendan Dolan. So, four of these men will be making the semi-final, and no doubt there’s going to be at least one surprises before the tournament is over.

Well, Day One of the UK Open was quite uneventful. We saw a lot of the big names progress, one or two casualties. Oh, and Phil Taylor lost to Aden Kirk. I’m sure you’re asking, ‘Who?’ Well, I’ll be honest, I know about as much as you. He’s played on the Challenge Tour, the Youth Tour and hasn’t done much to make an impression. Well, his name goes down in the history books for causing one of the biggest upsets not just in darts, but in sport. Today, it’s another early start and we have some fantastic matches. We start on the main stage with James Wade and Kim Huybrechts. Then it’s the all-Dutch battle between Cristian Kist and Vincent van der Voort. Michael van Gerwen takes on Andy Hamilton and then Aden Kirk gets the pleasure of taking on Peter Wright fresh off the back of his victory over The Power. Notable other matches include Terry Jenkins taking on Paul Nicholson, Dave Chisnall takes on Mervyn King, Dean Winstanley faces Stephen Bunting, after Bunting played two of the greatest legs of darts to beat Kevin Dowling last night, taking out a 151 with Dowling sitting on a double. Ronny Huybrechts takes on Adrian Lewis, and Mark Webster takes on the impressive Paul Hogan. It’s a stacked line-up and I can’t wait until 11:45!

The UK Open has managed to creep up on us, no thanks to the new scheduling which has put it in March, and also on ITV. So, this is a bit strange for everyone involved, especially those players playing three UK Open Qualifiers, and also a Premier League Darts match over the course of 4 days. We’ve got a lot of matches to get through, and thanks to the qualifying structure, as well as the fact there’s an open draw, Day One of the UK Open has some huge names playing, and some of them are facing each other. In the first session, well-known names such as John Henderson, Jelle Klassen and Michael Mansell… oh, and one Raymond van Barneveld, all has matches earlier than they would have hoped. In fact, Henderson and Klassen face off against each other in a huge match. We also have Ian White taking on Daryl Gurney, Justin Pipe takes on Dave Chisnall, Mark Webster has a tough match against Mark Walsh, Peter Wright and Michael Smith go head-to-head. We also have Steve Beaton and Brendan Dolan to look forward to, along with Richie Burnett versus Kevin Painter, Ronnie Baxter has a rough draw as he faces Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson takes on Andy Smith in some of the confirmed matches for later on in what promises to be a stacked day of darts.

From north of the border in Glasgow, the Premier League hits the south of England when it rolls into Exeter tonight. We have an all-Scotland battle as top-of-the-league Peter Wright takes on Robert Thornton, with Wright putting his 100% record on the line.
