Night one had the drama, while last night we got some stellar performances. We saw Michael van Gerwen start his defence of his title off with a bang. And then there was Andy Hamilton who didn’t miss a double at the end of a leg, going 6/6, and only missing three to start a leg, going 8/11, which is an unbelievable statistic. We did get a shock in the form of Wayne Jones beating last year’s runner-up, Mervyn King, but Jones took his chances and King didn’t.
So there were 2-0 wins for Jones, Justin Pipe, Kevin Painter, Andy Hamilton, Raymond van Barneveld and Michael van Gerwen, while Dave Chisnall and Adrian Lewis came through in tight matches 2-1.
