First we had Raymond van Barneveld destroy Simon Whitlock 5-1, with Barney averaging 102.32, and Simon Whitlock averaging 97.36 in what has to be one of the classic quarter-finals in the PDC World Championship. And then, what can be said about Phil Taylor’s performance against Andy Hamilton? He dropped two legs in his 5-0 demolition of the 2012 runner-up, and averaged 101.38. Needless to say, their semi-final has the potential to be an absolute classic.

The quarter-finals of the 2013 PDC World Darts Championship are set, and we’ve got 8 of the best taking to the stage over the next two nights to decide who’ll play in the semi-finals. Yesterday, Wes Newton got his place in the quarter-finals thanks to a 4-1 win over Mark Walsh. James Wade joined him with a 4-0 win over Vincent van der Voort. Simon Whitlock joined him, after squeezing past Dave Chisnall. Then Raymond van Barneveld crushed Gary Anderson 4-0, and defending World Champion Adrian Lewis completed the line-up by beating Kevin Painter 4-2, which was a lot closer than the scoreline would suggest.

Christmas is thankfully over and we can get back to what’s most important about this time of year – darts. We’ve got the final 6 third round matches, and it’s not the most exciting line-up we could have had. Wes Newton kicks of proceedings against Mark Walsh, then we have the battle of the high-scorers, when Simon Whitlock takes on Dave Chisnall. Then the resurgent James Wade faces Vincent van der Voort. Michael van Gerwen kicks off the evening session against Colin Lloyd, with Gary Anderson taking on Raymond van Barneveld in what could be the tie of the round. And then Adrian Lewis closes the day against Kevin Painter.

The final day of darts before Christmas was fantastic, with a 9-darter from Dean Winstanley in his defeat to Vinent van der Voort, along with an unbelievable performance from Michael van Gerwen, coming from 2-0 against Peter Wright. Mark Walsh and James Wade also secured their places in the third round. Then Andy Hamilton somewhat fortuitously beat Terry Jenkins to be the first person into the quarter-finals, followed by Phil Taylor, who destroyed Robert Thornton.
