Last night’s darting action didn’t start off too exciting, with Andy Jenkins averaging around 70 for the majority of his match with Justin Pipe, picking it up to 73 by the end of the match, but losing, deservedly, 3-0. It was a shocking game of darts, and Dave Harrigton’s performance in the qualifying match was even worse, as he capitulated to a 4-0 defeat to Haruki Muramatsu. And then things picked up. We started off with Ronnie Baxter edging out Dennis Priestley 3-1 in a real thriller, with Priestley missing changes to make it 2-2 before Baxter finally close the match out. It was a great battle between two veterans of the game. And then came Colin Lloyd’s 3-2 win over Darin Young, which went all the way to a final set, and the final set went in Lloyd’s favour, with Jaws closing it out 6-4. Young will feel aggrieved to have lost, but them’s the breaks! And then Simon Whitlock had a comfortable win over Marumatsu, with the Japanese qualifier looking decent, but only taking 3 legs off of the Aussie.
Tonight is the last night of first round action at the 2013 World Championship, and we’ve got a few decent matches in prospect, specifically Stuart Kellett taking on Vincent van der Voort. We also have Scott Rand taking on Kim Huybrechts, Mark Walsh facing Darren Webster, and Michael van Gerwen takes on the winner of the qualifying match. That qualifying match has Mr 9-Darter himself, Paul Lim, taking on Mohammed Latif Sapup. Take the overs on the amount of times Lim’s 9-darter at the Lakeside is mentioned; it’s going to be double-figures, easily!
Thanks to Ronnie Baxter’s inability to close out the match in three sets last night, the total maximums bet last night got over the line, so the Free Darts Betting Tip is 5-1 with a profit of +8.71 units. The Premium Picks are 12-10 with a profit of +10.5 units.
