Crazy night of darts last night, with three of the matches going all the way to a deciding leg. Mark Walsh emerged victorious over Wayne Jones, Christian Kist got past Raymond van Barneveld and Gary Anderson show real grit to beat Tony O’Shea – all three men avoiding defeat thanks to missed doubles by their opponents in the deciding leg. We also saw the implosion of the World Champion, Adrian Lewis. He hit 11% of doubles in his defeat to John Part. Wes Newton comfortably beat Wesley Harms, while Terry Jenkins brushed aside Martin Phillips. And we saw Andy Hamilton and Paul Nicholson destroy Brendan Dolan and Barrie Bates respectively. It was a real mixed bag of action.
Tonight we have a lot of variables in play, as there could be players eliminated before they even get onto the oche, and there’s the chance of a 3-way play-off, and so many other interesting scenarios that make the betting a bit precarious. Still, it’s got the ingredients for an exciting night, and if James Wade gets the right result against Mervyn King, and Arron Monk does the same against Jan Dekker, that’s when we’ll get out 3-way tie at the top. Then we’ve got players such as Steve Beaton that need to win 5-0 and then hope results go their way if they’re to stand a chance of going through. So much that won’t be decided until the final dart is thrown, and I can’t wait.
