It’s time for the Grand Slam of Darts – the one tournament in the year where the BDO boys square off against the PDC players. A few years ago it was common place, but now we’ve only got the GSOD going where everyone but Martin Adams has the opportunity to play against their peers from the other code. It’s always a great tournament, it’s exciting and, most importantly, we get to see matches that we don’t get to see any other time during the year.
As usual, PHil Taylor is favourite, and he’s playing on day one, along with 2010 GSOD champion Scott Waites. And it’s also a night of former World Champions, as apart from Taylor, we also have Mark Webster, Ted Hankey and Steve Beaton playing tonight. And World Championship runners-up? Well, we’ve got Kevin Painter, Dean Winstanley, and Simon Whitlock. Not to mention the two men to have won the PDC Under-21 World Championship, Arron Monk and James Hubbard. Did I mention the current UK Open Champion, Robert Thornton and the current World Grand Prix champion, Michael van Gerwen? It’s a seriously stacked card of darts tonight, and I didn’t even mention James Wade!
