Another weekend, and it means the season is drawing to a close, which isn’t great for us Mark Lawrenson fans, is it? But, hey, we have Euro 2016 this summer, and if you’re a supporter of England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland, it’s going to be a great one. If you’re Scottish, like myself, then it’s going to be a long, long summer, especially if England go deep. The only benefit is having an excuse to drown our sorrows. Before the summer kick-off, though, we’ve got the Premiership drama to cope with. I mean Leicester pulled a big win out of the bag last week, while Spurs dropped a couple of points at Liverpool, and Arsenal and Manchester City closed the gap with timely wins over Watford and Bournemouth respectively. And Manchester United kept their Champions League hopes alive with a crucial win over a terrible Everton side. West Ham might have to settle for sixth, though, after dropping a couple of points in what was a must-win game against Crystal Palace. Still, if The Hammers can get something out of this week’s game against Arsenal, it might not be the end of their season. At the bottom, it looks all over for Aston Villa, and Newcastle and Sunderland are looking like their time is running out. Newcastle needed to get something out of last week’s match against Norwich, and they capitulated in injury time. But since the season has been unpredictable so far, it would be foolish of me to make any predictions on the outcome of the season just yet. There’s only one person fit to make those kinds of predictions, and it’s the great man himself, Mark Lawrenson.
Last week didn’t look the trickiest of weeks to get the correct results, with some obvious looking bankers on the cards. However, Lawro did go for a Manchester City draw at Bournemouth, when it looked the real value was on City to get the 3 points, which they did in spectacular fashion. Still, it actually was a winning week for Lawro, somehow, thanks to getting the correct score in the Liverpool vs Tottenham game, I guess. He managed to get a tiny profit of +0.59 units for the week, which Mark Lawrenson now has a season’s loss of -61.66 units. To be fair, he really did hit the post on a couple of correct scores, I mean Norwich and Newcastle looked like it was going to peter out into a 2-1 win for Norwich before all that late drama. But, hey, that’s why it’s not over until the final whistle, and fans of Lawro know that more than most.

It’s a tough week of fixtures to predict, with all the title contenders having tricky matches to get through. If Leicester can win away to Sunderland, which isn’t out of realms of possibility, and Spurs and Arsenal draw, you could start to see the race being on for second, while the title picture is almost done and dusted. Of course, there’s many a slip, as the saying goes, between cup and lip, so we’ll not declare Leicester City Premiership champions yet, but it’s getting tantalisingly close for them, and there wouldn’t be a neutral fan that would begrudge them it.
