So, what did we learn about the English Premiership after last week’s fixtures? Well, Arsenal are back on track, Manchester United are still woeful, Leicester still struggle away from home, and Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea picked up good wins away from home against trick opposition. And then we had the European fixtures, and Manchester City got a fantastic 3-1 win over Barcelona, Leicester remained undefeated in all Champions League games in the club’s history, Tottenham seem to hate Wembley, Arsenal are the comeback kings, Manchester United really are woeful and Southampton got a famous win over Inter Milan. It was a fun week in English football, and there will be a couple of European results that will go down in the history of Manchester City and Southampton, that’s for sure.
But more importantly, how did Mark Lawrenson get on last week? He has a nice little run going, and last week he actually managed to get seven predictions right, and one correct score. Well, once again Lawro isn’t really out on a limb here. I mean, out of all the teams that played in Europe this week, Lawro is only backing Tottenham and Southampton to drop points, and Tottenham are playing Arsenal at the Emirates, so there’s that. I think going for a 2-0 win for Manchester United is a bit optimistic, that’s for sure. But again, it’s still too early in the season for Lawro to be taking risks, and as long as he’s getting the correct results, he probably doesn’t care.
