Last week in the English Premiership, things ended up going a bit mental. We had Sunderland put four past Crystal Palace away from home without reply, and Defoe didn’t score all four of them. Seriously, that’s about as crazy as it can get. But we also have Everton put six past Bournemouth, who still managed to get three in the Everton net. But we can’t forget Hull keeping a clean sheet in their 2-0 win over Liverpool. It was a nightmare weekend for punters, while it was a bookies’ bonanza. There were so few chances to get a correct score prediction right, but this weekend will hopefully be a bit better.
Did Mark Lawrenson fare OK with those mental results? What do you think? Of course not. His safe predictions of 1-1 draws and 2-0 wins for the favourites just got hammered. He did get three results correct, but no correct scores. To be fair, I can’t say I’m surprised, as I think very few people will have made a lot of money last weekend. But what about Lawro’s figures? Did Lawro manage to keep the profit-making going? Definitely not. In fact, Lawro made a loss of -11.54 units, which is just terrible. Yes, one correct score would have helped out a lot, but there was no way he would ever get 6-3 to Everton or 2-0 to Hull, never mind a 4-0 win for Sunderland. How did that loss affect Lawro’s profit for the season? Well, Lawro now has a profit for the 2016/’17 season of +24.11 units. So, for every £10 wager made on Lawro’s predictions, you’d be in profit to the tune of £241.10. Not bad at all, even though we made a bit of a loss last weekend! I’m hopeful Lawro will get back to his winning ways, because we can’t stand too many losses like we had last weekend, or we’ll be right back into the red, and I’d hate for Lawro’s predictions to start making us a loss again.

There’s one interesting selection here and that’s Sunderland to beat Southampton 1-0. Whether that’s because Lawro thinks the trip from the south coast to the north east might hinder Southampton or that he just thinks Sunderland aren’t too bad at home, it’s quite a bold prediction. Although, to be fair to Lawro, he did predict a 1-0 win for Sunderland against Spurs and it ended 0-0. There are also a lot of 11/2 prices quoted by the bookies for Lawro’s correct scores. I’m saying he’s playing it safe, but a lot of those correct scores are at or near the head of the market. Still, If he can land a couple, I won’t be complaining!
