Last week I said I hoped for FA Cup shocks, and FA Cup shocks are what we got. We started off with a huge win for Lincoln City against Burnley, which is even more impressive with the fact it was at Turf Moor. Then Milwall put the hapless Leicester City out of the FA Cup in another bit of a shock, which also seemed to signal the beginning of the end of Claudio Ranieri’s tenure with the Foxes. Sadly, it wasn’t to be for the biggest potential shock of all, as Sutton lost to Arsenal, but then Wayne Shaw eating a pasty will have cheered some people up, no doubt. We’re back to Premiership action this weekend, but we have the first ‘major’ domestic trophy of the season up for grabs as Manchester United face Southampton in the EFL Cup Final, which should be a tasty match on Sunday.
With those shocks, including Manchester City’s draw with Huddersfield, it was obviously a tricky week for predictions. Lawro did not actually predict one correct score, and out of the eight games, he only managed to predict four correct results, all of which were short odds-on shots, which is never good! So, what were the scores on the doors for our favourite prediction king? Well, Lawro made a pretty substantial loss of -10.67 units last week, which hits his profits just a bit and takes them down to +2918. It’s a tough week for predictions this week, I think. The big match is, of course, the EFL Cup Final, and Lawro is going for a relatively comfortable Manchester United win. I think for the sake of the fans, I’d love Southampton to put up a fight. Will it happen? Probably not, but we can hope. Lawro isn’t predicting any real shocks, although I think his prediction of 1-1 between Everton and Sunderland is quite bold, as it Watford’s 2-0 win over West Ham.
