Was the title decided last weekend at the Etihad? Short answer, no. But, hey, Leicester beating Manchester City 3-1 (and it could have been more), sent out a huge warning to the rest of the clubs in the top 5. And we also had Tottenham move up into second place, with Arsenal and Manchester City filling the other two Champions League spots. If you look at the overall predictions Mark Lawrenson has made, and how his predicted Premiership stacks up against the actual Premiership, he couldn’t be further off if he tried. According to Lawro’s predictions, Leicester should be in 17th and Tottenham should be 8th. Manchester City would be clear of Arsenal at the top by three points, and Chelsea would be trailing them in third by another six points. And then he has Liverpool in 4th by another two points. It’s safe to say that Lawro’s predictions for the overall Premiership have just been way off the mark. He’s over estimated Liverpool, Chelsea, West Brom and even Newcastle by a long way, and he’s underestimated Leicester, West Ham and Watford.
After Lawro’s amazing FA Cup exploits, where he made a profit of almost 30 units, and started to claw back some respect, how did he fare in last week’s predictions? Well, Lawro keps up the sterling effort with another winning week, including two correct scores, both coming in Sunday’s fixtures. His profit for last week was a quite staggering +10.58 units. So this is the week that Lawro finally comes round to the fact that Leicester and Tottenham are genuine contenders and real threats to the big teams, as he’s predicting draws for both of them against Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. Now, it could be too little to late for Lawro’s predictions, but it’s good to see he’s finally taken them seriously. Of course, he’s still overestimating Liverpool, and although Villa Park isn’t exactly a fortress and Villa are no great shakes, it takes a brave man to make a prediction this inconsistent team are going to win, whether at home or away.
