It’s time to look into the month of August, and of all of the sporting events taking place in August 2015.
As we do every month, we provide a complete sporting event calender for each month, covering that month in sports. We aim to cover all of the major sporting events and some minor ones. If you are looking for a particular sporting event to be covered each month, please just let us know in the comments below.
Baseball:
The major league baseball season continues in August. There are some jerseys being retired in August which are:
August 8th: Randy Johnson, #51, Diamondbacks.
August 22nd: Jorge Posada, #20, Yankees.
August 2rd: Andy Pettitte, #46, Yankees.
Basketball:
The NBA of course is still on its summer break. The Euroleague is also on hiatus. The schedule for next season of the NBA should be released in August.
August 1st will see the first NBA game in Africa – taking place in Johannesburg. August 10-14 has the USAB Mini Camp in Las Vegas, and August 16-19 has the BWB Americas in Santa Domingo in the DR.
Boxing:
August 1st: Coyle vs Campbell
August 1st: Malignaggi vs Garcia
August 6th: Ramirez vs Partida
August 7th: Ayala vs Derevyanchenko
August 7th: Avila vs Koasicha
August 14th: Cunningham vs Tarver
August 15th: Rose vs Campa

August 22nd: Groves vs Jack
August 29th: Mares vs Santa Cruz
Cricket:
Most notable Cricket event in August is August 20-24, with the final ashes test. It’s England vs Australia Fifth Text.
Cycling:
The BMX World Championships will be taking place August 21-25, in Zolder, Belgium. Always fun to see.
Football:
The CFL continues with weekly games in August. It will be the end of Week 6(August 1st, Alouettes vs Stampeders and August 3rd, Argonauts vs Tiger-Cats), all the way through to August 30th when Week 10 ends.
Training camps will of course be taking place in the NFL throughout August. The Pro Football Hall of Fame Game is on August 9th. Steelers take on the Vikings.
The NFL pre-season begins on the week of August 13th to 17th and we’ll see Week 2 from the 20th to 24th, and Week 3 the 27th to 30th.
Golf:
The most notable PGA event is the PGA Championship beginning August 13th. Prior to that, there is both the Barracuda Championship and the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational on August 6th. We’ll also have the Wyndham Championship (August 20th) and The Barclays (August 27th).
The European Tour has just 2 events in August, which are the Made in Denmark on the 20th, and the D+D Real Czech Masters the week after that.
The LPGA has 3 events, which are the Campia Portland Classic (August 13th), Canadian Pacific Women’s Open (August 20th) and the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic (August 27th). Fun fact – that was when we correctly predicted the winner at 40/1 of Mi Jung Hur, for a huge payout last year.
Finally, the Champions Tour has the Shaw Charity Classic August 7th-9th, Boeing Classic August 21st to 23rd, and the DIcks Sporting Goods Open on August 28th through August 30th.
Hockey:
The Champions Hockey League returns on August 20th with Game Day 1, taking place over August 20th and August 21st. Game Day 2 will then take place August 22nd-23rd. Game Day 3 takes place August 27th-August 28th, and Game Day 4 is on August 29th-August 30th.
The EuroHockey Championships take place on England beginning August 21st, all the way through to August 30th.
Mixed Martial Arts:
Here are all of the MMA events in August:
August 1st: UFC 190 – Rousey vs Correia, WSOF 22 Palhares vs Shields
August 8th: UFC Fight Night 73: Teixeira vs OSP
August 23rd: UFC Fight Night 74: Holloway vs Oliveira
For those interested, the World Judo Championships take place beginning August 25th and go until August 30th.
Motor Sports:
The Formula One has just the one event in August, which is the Belgian Grand Prix on August 23rd.
Nascar has the following:
August 2nd: Pennsylvania 400
August 9th: Cheez-It 355
August 16th: Pure Michigan 400
August 22nd: Irwin Tools Night Race
Soccer:
The UEFA Super Cup is on August 11th.
The English Premier League season starts August 8th, and the La Liga begins August 22nd. It’s a week earlier than usual for the La Liga due to next years European Championships. Yes – we are so close to Euro 2016!
We won’t mention all the other leagues but you should just be aware that it’s around this time all of the other leagues start.
The playoff rounds draw of the Champions League is on August 7th and the games take place August 18/19 and August 25/26. The Group Stage draw for the Champions League will be on August 27th, 2015.
Tennis:
The World Championships in Badminton take place August 10-16 in Indonesia.
Wrestling:
